This was my logic for a really long time too. However, I buy them and then they sit in a safe. Great, now what?  I have about 20 pistols, how many more do I need to get?  This is a new hobby that hopefully will be social and fun. Figured I'd give it a shot.

Airsoft is kind of dangerous... you tend to unlearn the difference between cover and concealment  ;)
there are no RPGs and nades , are they ? 
would not be in surprise if some Japs made a throwing or spring driven devise that sprinkles a room with colorful BB using compressed air inside from a CO2 capsule

Don't worry...I will NEVER confuse the difference between cover and concealment.

Yes...they do make various grenades for airsoft, but I'm not sue how effective they are.  Most of the hand grenades seem to be noise makers with no projectile element.  There are 40mm grenades that seem to be launchable though.

I've been giving this a closer look now. There seem to be a couple of fairly large groups in my area.

I don't have any airsoft guns but have played using someones extra gun but each time I've played its just devolved into a fight about who got hit and who didn't, with paint ball its fairly easy to settle those arguments, airsoft not so much especially if your clothes are thick enough it doesn't' leave welts.  This is my big hang up with getting my own airsoft gear.

The TerrorWerks guys used to run a LARP zombie/space event at Origins every year using Airsoft guns.

Yeah, I noticed a bit of that the few times I went.  A few guys refused to acknowledge that they'd been hit and were likely to come to blows over it so they were tossed.  Another guy broke the minimum distance rule and emptied his pistol into someone's back from a foot away and he was tossed.  Someone bitched about a sniper rifle being too powerful and having a greater muzzle velocity than was allowed so everyone had to stop until the chronograph was brought out and the rifle tested.  It was right at the limit but still allowed.  There was also a heated argument over an incident that happened the weekend before I went.   Some guy had bought an airsoft claymore mine and set it up on a trail.  Someone else spotted it and kicked it out of the way and ended up breaking it with the kick.  Lots of back and forth over who was in the right, who was in the wrong, and who should pay. 

Most people were pretty decent and the course the local group has set up is really nice.  Big and with lots of interesting stuff like a few towers, some trenches, and a few plywood bunkers.  If you could limit who was allowed in and get rid of the asshats, it could be a lot of fun.

Yeah. The UNCLE gun is a custom build. The guy does good work (I've gotten some of his stuff) but he is not cheap.
