I bought it and likely won't play it... but I'm a compulsive game buyer so that's what I do

Damn. Like hot cakes, this game is selling. Someone post a criticism of it! Even a little one will do.

It took my money and left me with a long wait to download it. ::)

My bags are cluttered with junk I don't know whether to keep or sell.  I'm leaning toward sell, but what if it's an item needed for a quest?

Inventory management is a little clumsy. Plus, with a lot of stuff to be found (the game could have been named Divinity:Crate And Barrel Searching Simulator), no encumbrance model, and no idea early in the game what is and isn't useful, you find yourself carrying a lot of stuff around with no real way to organize it.

Actually there is a weight carried mechanic.  On your character screen there is a carried wt/max weight allowed stat.  I haven't hit the max weight yet, but I suspect it at a minimum slows down your characters movement speed.

There is?  I'll have to look for that.

Look in the lower right hand corner.  There is also a trait called packmule or something along those lines which increases carrying capacity.

Can you store merch in random locations on the map to get later, like in Skyrim?

^You can store them in your Homstead and even magically send loot there (it's unlocked during the main story).

I've got a little bit of time into the game and I am really enjoying it so far.  I looks and sounds great and I am looking forward to recruiting some followers.  I am still trying to figure out the crafting thing and as others have said what is really important to hang on to in my inventory.

Among guitar players we have a malady we call GAS (Guitar Acquisition Syndrome). The word "Game" would fit in there nicely as well.

There are no City Guards complaining about taking an arrow in the knee. There are no warriors from Hammerfell with curved swords. Curved. Swords!

How was that?

I've never played the others in the series.  Is it OK to just start with this one or will I be missing something?

Get it.  The only thing it has in common with other games in the series is the name (and the depth).

However... there are NPCs that will walk about repeating the same sentences over and over.  So it's a good substitute for the point I emboldened in your post.
