I like the CNN reporter who notes that "obviously there is the smell of marijuana in the air".

It is somewhat comforting to know that there are apparently people in the crowd intent on self-policing the crowd and keeping the protests from getting out of hand.

It also appears that there's more journalists than protesters in many of those visuals.

Aaaannnndddd the riots are underway. Already the Jets are behind by two touchdowns. This may be as bad as the riots in Utah after that black cop shot the unarmed white kid.

It's 12:24am local St. Louis time and the burnings continue. It is well planned ( the burnings) as small groups of people with Molotov cocktails infiltrate through the crowds and police lines to burn random businesses. I would doubt these are just random thugs starting most of these fires. The people of Ferguson are going to wake up tomorrow poorer and with less services than they did before sundown. Police response has been mild to this moment. I would say that a vast majority of the people who are "protesting" in the area are agitated but mostly peaceful. More protestors in another area blocked a major interstate, but they made their point and left peacefully enough (nobody was ripped out of their car and beaten).

Folks, this is just the beginning. The outside groups have had months to plan and stock up. I suspect there will be widespread interstate blockage tomorrow, which could be the thing that really sparks tensions between protestors and police. Unfortunately, my wife works downtown in an area that is highly likely to be affected by interstate blockage. I am trying to encourage her not to go to work, but she works at a hospital and people need her.

I am hoping for the best, but I fully expect this to be a media spectacle for days to come.
