Santa wont make it in time so help me pick an alternative game

So far I am leaning towards Command Modern Air/Naval but Elite would be first if I could get a joystick (looking for an X52 Pro but I need to get one on craigslist because this is a purchase I cannot hide from the wife when it is sitting on the desk)

If you were going to drop the dough on one of the above games which one has been keeping you happy with your gaming?

  CMANO is fun, but you can get lost in the editor.  I mean in a good way, but it eats time fast.

Depending on your mood and interest Distant Worlds or Command. Command probably has more replayability with the size of the database but Distant Worlds is the best space 4x on the market IMO.

I second Kushan's assessment of Distant Worlds.  Obviously not everyone agrees (I know Huw in particular isn't a fan), but IMHO you get a lot of great space 4x gaming with the Universe package. 

While Attila doesn't come out til next year, you should seriously consider picking up Rome II if you don't already own it.  (If you do, then never mind and carry on. ;) )  It's by far my favorite Total War title in the last decade.

I purchased Borderlands The Pre-Sequel as a gift for a nephew last night when it was around 10% off.   He really wanted it and the gift exchange is tomorrow so I picked it up not expecting it to hit any daily sales anytime soon, being fairly new.

Sure enough, it went down to 50% off today.

Get Elite. You don't really need a supah-dupah joystick to play. One with a throttle slide and a few buttons will do fine for now and  you can always upgrade to a HOTAS setup later on if you want.

get COMANO while its on sale .... (you had it on the list so u are not afraid of its magnitude)

not because Elite is bad,
just because Elite has missions that are timed and the time is measured in RL-hours (typical 3 to 9 hours but also down to 10 minutes) ), which can put a unwanted real pressure on you especially in times where sudden unforeseen RL interdictions ( pun indented  ;) ) is imminent.
certainly you can save any time ...but i guarantee you will feel the surge to get back online again before your mission timer has finally ticked down to zero.

In addition there are situations where you simply 'cant' ( =want to) interrupt your game for a few minutes! (or suffer a huge setback that may cost you hours of playtime invested) not answering a phone or a question or order yelled from another room or anything ...for example when about to enter a station and land or you in a fight and about getting destroyed or destroying the enemy , or picking up the rare item in space you need to retrieve and deliver in time...
you need the solitude and freedom to turn away any disturbance for several minutes until the situation is stablised and you save then

of course get Elite later too O0 ('later' can be anything from minutes to days ;-) )

Although I've not played it in awhile to see what they are, CMANO has been getting updates that are adding much needed features.  If I were you, I'd probably get that on the sale.  $50 - $60 was around the price tag I had hoped for when it was released.

Or you could roll the dice and see if DWU comes down on a sale before Christmas gets going.

Or you could try the Matrix general Christmas sale, buying DWU from them directly, $50 download on sale.

Only consider Command if your a true grog who love modern naval warfare. Other wise it could be abit to dry.

If you don't have Flashpoint Campaigns Red Storm I'd say that over the others.
