IIRC, the police and also the fire brigades are somehow part of the military-branch in France
and there are the local Gendarmes police with less and only local authority who answer to the local mayor (or city council?)
  I am sure every French (beside the 'plasticFrench') will be on the lookout

its about time people start waking up and realise that islam is not a peacefull religion, and the moderate muslims as we call them are in fact not following the Quran even if they say that the book is gods written Words. There are more then 100 passages where muslims are told to kill or enslave any infidels.

La Gendarmerie nationale is a branch of the military that also cover military policing, but they also are like Mounties (RCMP or Gendarmarie royal du Canada) in that they also can do municipal policing in areas that do not have municipal police.  They also have specialized anti-terror "SWAT" teams.

Well its just getting worse for the French.  Now 2 more terrorists have attacked a kosher deli and killed 2 and taken hostages.  This will not end well for the hostages :(  >:(

French police were confronting two separate -- but apparently related -- hostage situations Friday, after a jihadist couple suspected of killing a cop a day earlier stormed a Paris deli, killing two and taking as many as five prisoners even as the suspects Wednesday's massacre at a Paris satirical magazine were holed up in a printing plant 25 miles north of the city, authorities said.

The hostage taken in the second case, at a kosher grocery store in eastern Paris, were identified by police as Amedy Coulibaly and Hayat Boumeddiene, a couple suspected in the murder Thursday of Paris Police Officer Clarissa Jean-Philippe as she attended to a routine traffic accident in the city. Authorities believe the case is related to Wednesday's attack, which 12 people, including two cops, dead at the publication Charlie Hebdo, which has angered Muslim radicals by publishing images of Prophet Muhammed.

Authorities feared all four suspects are bent on going out as martyrs, and potentially killing hostages and police officers in the process.

Yes, echoing what jomni said above, it wasn't all that long ago that Europeans tried to exterminate an entire people group because they didn't like their business practices. The moderate Muslim community should realize that it's not impossible for that to happen again, especially if there is a legitimate and constant threat from the extremists.

Yes, echoing what jomni said above, it wasn't all that long ago that Europeans tried to exterminate an entire people group because they didn't like their business practices. The moderate Muslim community should realize that it's not impossible for that to happen again, especially if there is a legitimate and constant threat from the extremists.

There is something of a parallel between a worldwide general despising of Judaism in the early 20th century and today's worldwide general despising of the Muslim religion...despite the efforts of the crazy media trying to tell you there's nothing to see here, move along.

I seriously doubt any country, let alone group of countries, will devolve into rounding up Muslims and sending them to gas chambers. And if they did, I doubt that would do anything but create more extremists and make the fight much bloodier than the Holocaust ever was.

Of course I say that now...who knows what might happen. There are extremists at every end of the spectrum of humanity.
