I also bought Elite thinking it would be like ETS2 or FSX + Air Hauler.  But nope, it's quite bland in these aspects.

Bottom line is that this game is no space trucker sim.

I've actually gotten bored with it myself  :(  There isn't enough to do just yet.

I do.  And I fancy the Vulture.

Of course I can't do much with a wing since I'm currently almost 10k light years away from any inhabited system.

Fantastic.  Well, well deserved.  There's a poster in Atlanta with a picture of Nimoy as spock giving the Vulcan salute, with just the caption "He did".  Very true.

I actually made it back from my deep space survey mission, just in time to complete the community goal at Lambda Andromadae.  A bit under two weeks in deep space, scanning everything that twitched and barely a 2 million payout.  They REALLY need to buff exploring profits, especially considering the sorry state of my Asp when I got back.  Needless to say it my Asp was given a good reaming by one too many binary star clusters.

Jarhead - Yeah. You're probably right.

Gus - I use sweatpants with flannel shorts to soak up my crotch sweat.

Banzai Cat - There is no "partial credit" in grammar. Like anal sex. It's either in, or it's not.

Mirth - We learned long ago that they key isn't to outrun Star, it's to outrun Gus.

Martok - I don't know if it's possible to have an "anti-boner"...but I now have one.

Gus - Celery is vile and has no reason to exist. Like underwear on Star.

Rogue System is the one I'm looking forward to.  The idea the devs have is to make a space combat simulator with the level of detail and complexity you'd find in a DCS title such as A-10C or Black Shark.  It's pre-alpha right now and I'm not sure how much backing or press it's getting but I hope it all pans out.

I'm also looking forward to No Man's Sky.

Thank you for posting that.  I couldn't remember the name of the game.  No Man's Sky looks FANTASTIC....like one of the best games I've ever seen.  I hope they pull it off.

We should start a thread for No Man's Sky, actually.   O0

I think I'm going back to a viper. I have enough cash to trick it out and truthfully, I've never liked flying more. Trading doesnt suit me so as long as I'm just going to kill people... When I get enough for an asp, I may do that

The Viper is still my favorite.

Best comparison of Viper to Asp is a Viper is a P-51 and and Asp is a P-38.  I'm still partial to the P-51.

Biggest downside of the Asp is operating cost.  Wear and tear, even if you're careful and avoid combat, is prohibitive, in the 60k or greater range for a long supercruise or a trade circuit with a lot of jumping.  Throw in a combat where some percentage of hull gets taken off and a good cruise can run in the hundreds of thousands.

Sadly, I think because if its wear and tear the Asp is best suited as a trader, not as a explorer, which is odd considering that's its specialty.  I also can't see a Gunship build doing more than breaking even with intensive combat.

This is actually the problem as you class into the bigger ships.  The Asp, with a good positive income, is manageable.  However, the bigger ships that come after the Asp can have repair bills in the millions after a long run with a few dents from combat.  That pretty much forces trading as a primary profession as the others just don't have the income to keep up.  The Viper and Cobra are the last really cost effective ships.

Its sad because right now, other than accruing wealth to buy bigger and tougher ships, I don't really see any incentive to keep playing. They really need to develop some system that lets the player build an empire. Owning a few ships and being able to pilot them one at a time just isn't enough.

The game will ALWAYS be on my harddrive, but it needs a spark to make it something I will want to continue playing regularly.

I just read a review at Rockpapershotgun and this was the upshot of it.  A great shell of a game, but it needs more "game" to be developed.

Sounds a lot like DCS actually, not quite apples and oranges but maybe apples and peaches.

For those interested and able to participate, the 1.2 Beta launched today.

Already got a chance to try out the new ships.  Very cool.

No clue.  All ships are 100cr in the Beta.  Judging by their abilities, I'd think the Vulture to be between the Cobra and Asp, and the Fer de Lance to be probably in 10 mil range.

Both seem to be extraordinarily combat leaning.  The Vulture is the next in the upgrade line of the Eagle, and the Fer de Lance next in line after the Viper.  Vulture is a dogfighter, Fer de Lance an interceptor.  I think the Fer de Lance may well replace the Cobra/Viper as the most popular pirate and bounty hunter ships.  The Vulture is born to do combat zones and escorting in wings.

So I've pretty much just bought all of the ships and tried them all out. I'm curious how this is going to transpire once it comes out of beta. I've bought over 1,000,000 credits in upgrades for some of them, so I hope if they take the ships away I'll be refunded the credits.
