If your going to make me connect to the Internet the whole time I'm playing..."or else", then Please make sure your f***ing server works. I would like to play the game I paid a lot of money for goddammit

So.. help me with this.  It's a sandbox game.   I've never been good with those, I need some direction when playing.   Is there any kind of way to determine if you've "won"?   Is there some really satisfying goal that you can strive for aside from just amassing wealth?   Any kind of endgame type bosses or missions?   Thanks!

oooooo theres a contentious question!

its entirely open ended play, no end, no goal, no big win - its totally driven by you, you want to be a pirate, raping and pillaging innocent traders across space go for it, or be the innocent trader earning millions on the black market or supplying much needed produce to planets suffering a shortage, or be a fighter, or an explorer - uncover planets noone has found and have your name next to them as the founder of the star system - but you will never be driven down one of these routes, you will never HAVE to do anything, you could just float in space - there are missions to improve your rank within factions, but you dont have to do the missions or join a faction - its all totally up to you and down to what you make of it

it splits the gaming community between 'theres nothing to do, noones tellimg me what to do' and 'this is awesome, i can be whatever i want to be using my imagination amongst the stars'

So, is this game populated entirely with actual live players, or are there bots flying around too? 'Geek, when you say "innocent traders" that made me wonder if those are AI-driven ships or if someone is actually controlling it.

Toonces

Good lord is this game a steal at $27.  I bought it for $70 when it was in beta and I still thought that was a bargain.

The vast majority of ships in the game are AI controlled NPC's.  In solo play, there are no live players at all.  Even in Open play, the vast majority of ships are NPC's.  The galaxy is large enough that if you stay out of the major systems and off the most lucrative trade routes you can essentially never see a human even in Open.

no theres AI too, traders, pirates, police, security forces and combat veterans - there are 2 ways to play - OPEN, a galaxy of MP players and AI, or SOLO which is entirely AI

Thanks!   Helps me a lot... I know a lot of people like games like that, I just happen to not be one of them.   To each their own.   ;-)

I saw the 40% off on steam, but then I went to the elite site, its selling a new game that adds a new season, so the old version may become no players, I wouldn't mind except there is no single player, after playing frontier 2 years ago, Im not tempted anymore with Elite dangerous. its a game I would of liked to play over years, not keep adding seasons.

Kushan

Not sure I ever saw an answer to this, but are they going to keep making those of use who pay full price keep re-buying each season? Or will Horizons be the base for all future versions and we will just have to pay a smaller amount to unlock new features?
PanzersEast: Have to think to myself.... will I play the first one by the Winter Sale?  Probably not, then I should remove Dragonfall
PanzersEast: but that is thinking too logically.... and Steam Sales are about ignoring Logic
