Is there any particular reason to buy the game on Steam or not? I can pick up a non-Steam version on Amazon for the same sale price that the Steam version is going for. Say I got a wild hair and wanted to do multiplayer, would a non-Steam version be able to play with Steam versions? Patches and mods work equally well?

Thanks!

JasonPratt

Well, the devs don't patch it anymore, so no reason to go Steam that way. Mine isn't Steam, btw.

I suppose patches and mods work equally well, but you'll have an extra level or two of fiddling with folders.

Multiplayer Paradox games are practically impossible, so it's a moot point whether Steam will work with non-Steam.  ;D

Man, OJ, I dunno. Your resources aren't a problem yet -- you've got negative metal but still lots in storage to work from. Your practical IC nicely exceeds your 'real' IC. You've even tried ramping up the production slider, assigning IC to production, until you're about 6 IC beyond what's necessary (so that as far as the computer is concerned you're wasting that IC!)

The only thing I can see is that you have no manpower available to train, but if that was being a problem your other ships shouldn't be at 100% production. Did you move the planes and subs around in your order queue after you started them? -- but then manpower would be training for those things and not for anything less that needed manpower.

My recommendation at the moment is to cancel those orders, and then try re-ordering them one at a time.

Thanks Jason, that is that sorted then.
Wondered about the multiplayer bit in a long real time game anyway but some of my old clanmates from UO days have been doing a 4 player EU IV lately and seem to be having fun.

OJsDad

JP, the only thing I can think of is that I was allowed to order without the man power to man them.  I'll cancel them and try again when I have the man power.  I was thinking the samething last night while trying to go to sleep, just been a little busy today to try. :P

On a different yet related topic, I had to quit playing WW1Cent this morning -- I mean quit playing the game entirely -- due to a bug where the game decided for whatever reason that I not only needed to see a fight between Germany and France, but that I needed to see it from Germany's perspective. Which wouldn't have been too bad, except then the game froze thinking about turns on either side and there was no way for me to exit the screen (since I wasn't 'playing' that battle in the first place).

sigh.

I don't know if that bug was a problem in Gold; the conversion to Centennial did open up new bugs, which the publisher was in the process of quashing when the legal restraint enacted. I may try again later, using Gold.

You might give it a try again after restarting the the game.  I've found that it sometimes helps to save and quit the game from time to time just to keep things running right.

I cancelled my sub and aircraft order then requested an armor car.  My lack of man power is what is causing the issue.

Browsing through the tech tree, there doesn't seem to be any good options to help increase your man power.

Manpower is mainly increased by strategies, not so much by tech.

By strategies, I mean "decisions", sorry; too long since I played the game, got the term wrong.

The decision sidebar-list can be found (if you don't recall or have found it yet) by

1.) clicking "View Map" on the upper left tab

2.) clicking the almost-far-left icon on the horizontal row which should then appear below "View Map"; it'll have a red question mark, and the tooltip should clarify that that's the "view decisions" button.

There are several decisions available which can increase manpower by several levels.

Thanks JP.  I had found those, but cannot enact any at this time.

@OJsDad:  IN Vanilla HOI2, the Tech Tree has Manpower upgrades if IIRC.  May not be until closer to WW2.  Having never played AAR/GC, I don't know if that will happen for sure.

@Bardolph:  You cannot play mp on Steam without the Steam version afaIk.  And mp Paradox games are pretty awesome.  Just ask your EUIV friends ;)

GC has some manpower tech upgrades, too, but as side effects to other things really. The main manpower is picked up from political decisions -- also from war being declared.

Thanks guys.  I was playing vanilla DH.  However, I downloaded the latest release of GC last night and strated a new game as Italy today.  Haven't gotten too far into it.  Something I've never seen or thought possible, the Swiss have joined the CP early in the war.  It's the beginning of '15 and I've just joined the CP.
