Sen. John McCain was just on TV a moment ago in an interview on Fox. He flatly predicted that Assad would go and it was simply a question of who would replace him.

He also stated that the Iranians have troops in Syria now helping to try and prop up the regime.

Perhaps the Iranians are coving the regime's escape?

Dunno. Interesting thought, 40.

Someone has bumped off a general in the capitol.

QuoteSyria's state-run news agency says gunmen have assassinated an army general in the capital Damascus.

Yeah, I read that yesterday afternoon.

So at what point do we stop calling it an "uprising" and just start calling it a civil war?  They're surely on the brink, if not already there.

A summary of what I read somewhere yesterday:
The rebel army spokesman indicated that this general was not an active player in the Assad regime but was well connected and
that he may have been bumped off by the Regime itself because he might have been preparing to defect and would have been
the highest military official to do so up to now. He had connections inside the Syrian Air Force's intelligence apparatus which
is apparently one of the big players in internal security.

Maybe the rebels would be better off with a corporate sponsor since the UN won't get involved. "This civil war is brought to by Pepsi ! The official drink of Syrian rebel officers"

"Everyone we've been talking to ... believes that the country is heading towards, or already is in, a full-blown war, and recovering from that is going to be incredibly challenging," said CNN's Arwa Damon, who reported from inside Syria early Tuesday.
