So was Deadpool the best movie I've seen in (at least) the last couple of years?

I've read a few reviews, too.  And it seems that everyone agrees the actor suits the role.  And sometimes, that produces genius.  No matter who the actor is.  I may have to relent and see this.  My daughter will be the test subject on Sunday.  Her opinion will be biased though.  The whole "I would marry Ryan Reynolds in a heartbeat," thing gooches the deal though.

Thank you.  I'm just glad it's Reynolds and not Dane Cook.  Imagine how Jessica Simpson's father felt when she brought HIM home?!

There's a lot of Ryan Reynolds hate in this and any other thread in which he's mentioned.  What gives?  I think he's a good actor.  Has he done something heinous I'm not aware of?

Have you seen Green Lantern?  Or R.I.P.D.?  Or The Change Up?  The Proposal?  The Amityville Horror?  Van Wilder?  All those movies are crap!  And it doesn't matter what his character is supposed to be, he always plays the same person: smart ass, wise crackin', man child.  Which makes him perfect for Deadpool, but not so much for roles with a little depth.

Reynolds was on Opie Radio this past week promoting Deadpool. I haven't really heard him in an interview setting and he seemed like a pretty down to earth guy. He was self-disparaging and made a lot of jokes mocking himself.

He was asked if he'd do Green Lantern again for the DC movie lineup and his answer was "No, no, nononononono." He didn't like his role with that movie at all. He was super-psyched to do Deadpool as he's been wanting to do it right since they f-d it up in the Wolverine movie.

Van Wilder wasn't that bad. It was by no means a great movie, but it had moments. The only one I remember offhand is Eric Estrada 'auditioning' to be his assistant and adjusting his toupee obviously...I did LOL at that.

I'm all for self deprecation.  I use it often.  And I'm a smart ass.  And mean to boot.  So, I have no room to talk.  And he may be an alright guy in real life, but, his actor portrayals have left me disliking him immensely.  Jim Carrey does the same thing for me.  So some of the hate is on me.

Well opinions vary and all that, but it is a tad unfair to judge a man based on his roles.  He isn't a bad actor.  I actually haven't seen any of those films you mentioned with the exception of Amityville, in which I thought he acted rather well for what it's worth, even if it was yet another unnecessary remake.  I've also seen Buried which was purely a vehicle for him and he smashed it.

I honestly believe that to a greater or lesser extent, what you see an actor portray in the way of emotions, physical mannerisms and facial expressions, is indicative of their true selves.  I understand that the role and director both play large parts in what you see presented to you, but, part of it is genuine and the vibe that I get from some actors just turns me off because of that.  So it's totally on me.  As I grow older, I find myself looking at things from different perspectives and trying things I wouldn't have done in the past, so, maybe Deadpool will change my mind.  Some actors are born to play a role.  And many people think this is it for Ryan.

I'm actually growing more inclined to watch the film myself after hearing all the buzz.  I hated the trailer so had no interest but it's starting to sound like an amazing film by all accounts. :)
