The most shocking fact about war is that its victims and its instruments are individual human beings, and that these individual beings are condemned by the monstrous conventions of politics to murder or be murdered in quarrels not their own. Aldous Huxley

I will be sure to start every FRIDAY thread from now until ever with some appropriately crappy music.  Like disco.  Or country.  Or dubstep.  See if I don't.

Some of these people might like that music!  :-\

Played some World of Warships during my Lunch Break today with Steve58.. Then tonight with Hancock and another friend from MadDog forum. After that some Civ V with a friend from work.. so far a good start to gaming for the weekend!

MetalDog

There are good examples of all those types of music.  It's just all the other examples I don't like ;)

paplan - sorry - I didn't know what your post meant. I believe congrats are in order. And as UCG says - normal practice is to honour MetalDog, anything Bon Jovi normally grabs his attention  >:D

JH - I absolutely love the GR series...especially the last one.

As for MOO3, I did watch one of your videos. As well done as it was (and kudos for doing them - anything for the community should be applauded), I just couldn't get into MOO3 (which I got as part of the MOO bundle) - not even with the help of your video...not after the beauty of the latest MOO. It may be a shell of the others and simplified, but it is stunning and I actually really enjoyed the game.

SOI= School of Infantry--sort of like an extension of boot camp for US Marines.
3-6 = Third Battalion, Sixth Marines Regiment (The regiment is often dropped, making it 3rd Battalion 6th Marines).  Legend has it that this battalion fought so fiercely in WWI, the Germans referred to them as Teufelhunden, thus the name "Devil Dogs" was born.

Excellent. Thank you and proud moment indeed. Lets hope he stays safe through his career.  O0

I had a really fun yet stupid session of Sails of Glory tonight.  There`s a group of mainly miniatures players that meets up here in Vancouver once a month and plays various games.  I pulled out Sails of Glroy and ended up getting 5 players who wanted to try it out.  One guy had played before and had much more experience than anyone else but he was really bad at it. The other 3 we completely new to it and the 5th player was me.

Anyway,I threw together a little scenario where the French had hired an American privateer to land off the coast of Ireland and transfer arms and money to Irish nationalists.  The wind changed and pinned the American ship against the shore.  A British 3rd rate ship of the line, a frigate, and a sloop showed up to try to capture the American privateer.  A French 2nd rate ship of the line and a frigate showed up to engage the British in order to allow the American to slip away.  The French-US side would gain an automatic victory if the privateer could escape off the far end of the map where the Brits entered from.

I played the American ship.  I was pinned in a harbour surrounded by shoals and a rocky island with a lighthouse so it required careful planning in order to get out of the harbour and make for open ocean.  The two guys playing as the French were comically inept even though one of them was the guy with the most experience playing the game.  In our first attempt at the scenario, the two French ships repeatedly collided with each other and did so much damage that they surrendered to the Brits without firing a shot.

Because it ended so quickly, we decided to have another crack at it.  The second game went a little better but the French/US side still lost.  The French ship of the line ended up catching on fire, springing a leak in her hull, and then grounded herself on a sandbar all in one turn and then struck her colours but not before dealing out a fair amount of damage.  The other Frenchie (commanded by the guy with the most experience but least skill) managed to sail around off in his own little corner of the map and not really contribute in any way until the battle was almost over and then charged right into the guns of the big Brit ship, got hammered by raking fire, and lost two masts.

I almost got away but I got caught by the wind once and pushed back.  I sank the British sloop but then was rammed by the frigate and started to sink. Had I been able to pull around just a little tighter, I would have successfully tacked and been away.  Bloody fun game!

You wait.  I will find out what kind of music reminds you of nails on a chalkboard and I will be sure to start every post I make here with a video of that playing.

Playing around with Fantasy Grounds.  I've become a bit obsessive with tabletop RPGs.

Sir Slash

Just finishing-up the CMBN user-made campaign, "A Bridge Too Close"-- a short 2 battle campaign where the 82nd AB grabs a bridge from the Germans on D-Day and then has to hold it against a furious counterattack. My AB guys were literally down to their last rifle and mortar rounds before the Cavalry arrived.

Boggit: I loved the Road to Monteborg campaign for CMBN. Lots of tough fights.

Gus: I'm loving PoE too. One un-solicited piece of advice, take your time with the Character Creation as there are lots of choices and talents/skills to choose from. Try making a few characters just for fun first and to get used to it. The game will save your characters and you can later hire them at any Inn.
"Take a look at that". Sgt. Wilkerson-- CMBN. His last words after spotting a German tank on the other side of a hedgerow.

Well, I'm amazed. All these years and I had no idea that Hitler played the harmonica. Mind you, now I come to think about it, he did do a spot with the Bonzo Dog Doo-Dah band playing vibes in 'The Intro and the Outro'
'We few, we happy few, we band of brothers'

'Clip those corners'

Recombobulate the discombobulators!
