We've already got 'em sewn up in the ACC O0

Except that ND won't admit being part of the ACC for football.  So it like taking a girl on a date and her denying it's a date.

They're still (mostly) independent for football - but they've got 5 ACC games each year - and if they're going to join a conference, I don't know why they wouldn't just stay in the ACC given how well they fit for everything else (basketball, baseball, etc) and having Louisville as a closer geographic rival for games.

Stanford, USC, Michigan, Ohio State, Michigan State independently scheduled games and a previous huge exclusive NBC contract.

You forgot Navy ;)

They have USC / Navy / Stanford every year.
Mich/Mich St come and go, but on the sked more often than not.
Ohio State is occasional, but not common.

I don't really spend a lot of time thinking about seamen.  :P

Some idiot set fire to the toilet paper draping one of the replacement Toomer's Oaks after the LSU win by Auburn.  They caught the guy.  All of the leaves burned off.

Just unbelievable.

I don't understand the logic of destruction and rioting following winning or losing a game.

I don't know.  I think there is something to be said about expecting academic performance above athletic performance from student athletes.  Stanford doesn't seem to struggle with recruiting. Notre Dame has really struggled to recruit.  I think it has more to do with recruiting competiton from automatic bid conferences more than anything else.  Notre Dame should have sucked up their pride years ago and joined the Big 10, when the opportunity was available.

And when was Stanford's last National Championship?  LSU would be a great place for Kelly to come to.  And if he can recruit well enough to give the rest of the West a run, then, SEC supremacy will be assured for years.

I think you are missing the point.

MetalDog

Which is....?  David Shaw recruits smart guys and Brian Kelly can't?  Either way, neither of them win National Championships and that's what all the fan bases are in this for.  As well as the institutions where football is held higher than academics.  But just because you have to have a 1600 to get into Stanford and ND, doesn't mean the kid is going to go there.  Especially if he wants to win (which I understand is actually your point).  That being the case, why give yourself a heart attack beating your head against a wall for a small pool of good players/academicians when you can go somewhere with less stringent requirements and let'er rip?!

Because some people actually realize a quality education is better than a game for long term opportunity?

MetalDog

So you're saying that Brian Kelly realizes this and stays at ND because of his desire to see really smart kids get a good education?  Or you're saying that I lack the necessary ability/desire/recognition/intelligence to get a quality education rather than play football to win?

You personally?  I don't think your fast enough to play college football anymore.  And I'm sure if you wanted too you could attend a university or college and do well for yourself.
