Good point to think on, Stagger.  Maclean seems to be almost forgotten today, but he was a really good, maybe great writer.
Don't think I could take a movie based on HMS Ulysses, though. 
Has to be some hope in it for me to see a movie.

Maclean was a staple of my teenage years.

IIRC, HMS Ulysses was based on his personal experience as a crewman on one of the arctic convoy escorts. Compared to that, writing about blowing up giant gun emplacements or infiltrating Nazi castles would be a breath of fictitious fresh air.

Craft beer is legal in Alabama.  Never thought I'd see that day happen.  One of my (long ago) former students emailed me to gloat that I was wrong, wrong, wrong about that in a mass lecture one time.

I emailed back that I was delighted to be wrong and that I'm glad that he worked on the "Free the Hops" bill.

Well I finally saw Rogue One today with the kids and it was pretty epic.  Although the youngest is pissed off at Star Wars right now for killing off all of the good guys and gals.
