I finally managed to get a surf in this afternoon.  First surf since Xmas eve and the water is much, much colder.  Air wasn't too bad, about 40, but the wind was the suck.  Water is down to 36.  I'm not going to lie, it was pretty painful. 

My fingers always get cold right away.  My gloves suck and every surf my fingertips start to hurt within minutes.  I'm pretty sure my body pulls the blood from my fingers when it hits the cold.  At some point, maybe after a half hour, just when it's getting kind of ridiculous, my fingers will warm up.  I think that's the point where my body realizes it needs to direct some warm blood out there.  So there's this cycle where it will get increasingly painful for about 30-40 minutes, and then just when I'm about ready to call it, I'll get warmer.  That lasts for a while but then there's a second cold cycle, and there's no recovering from that.

Today my toes joined the fun.  They never warmed up.  It's now 5:20, almost 2 hours since I got out of the water, have taken a hot shower, thrown on the Uggs, etc., and my toes are just beginning to stop being numb.

I might be done with this.  I'm not sure I had enough fun to justify this silliness.

When your body is faced with cold/hypothermia, the body will 'pool' your blood in your torso to ensure your vital organs have more than enough to stay warm and functional. With exertion, your blood will pump faster, and hit your extremities. The more in shape you are, the faster that will happen.
