Can't believe there has been no talk of the Oscars here.  Did anyone here watch.  What did you think of who and what movies won.  I don't think I've seen any that were in the running for to movie, actor, actress, director.
'Here at NASA we all pee the same color.'  Al Harrison from the movie Hidden Figures.

I watched.  I'm very happy for Guellermo Del Toro.  I'm hoping last night's awards gives him a lot more power in Hollywood to do whatever he wants.
"These men do not want a happy ship. They are deeply sick and try to compensate by making me feel miserable. Last week was my birthday. Nobody even said "happy birthday" to me. Someday this tape will be played and then they'll feel sorry."  - Sgt. Pinback

mirth

Didn't watch. Am happy Del Toro won, but Paul Thomas Anderson really needs to win at some point.
"45 minutes of pooping Tribbles being juggled by a drunken Horta would be better than Season 1 of TNG." - SirAndrewD

"you don't look at the mantelpiece when you're poking the fire" - Bawb

"Can't 'un' until you 'pre', son." - Gus

watched the last hour or so - a few good quips and some entertaining moments

even I thought the "girl power" stuff got a little over-the-top at moments, but I understand why it was that way this year.

I saw a quip on Twitter that was pretty funny, they renamed Shape of Water to Grinding Nemo  :)

Haven't watched the circle-jerk Oscars in years and see no reason to change that. All of Hollywood, like the music industry and even D.C., is filled with self-important, clueless people who have one hand patting their own back while the other is sliding up the dress of someone else's wife.

And I'm not really that bitter, I just enjoyed the mini-rant   O0

Hey!  :knuppel2:
"My life is spent in one long effort to escape from the commonplace of existence."
-Sherlock Holmes

"You know, just once I'd like to meet an alien menace that wasn't immune to bullets."
-Brigadier Lethbridge-Stewart

"There's a horror movie called Alien? That's really offensive. No wonder everyone keeps invading you!"
-The Doctor

"Before Man goes to the stars he should learn how to live on Earth."
-Clifford D. Simak

I think he was referring to the politicians and not the bureaucrats.

Haha, yes. This was all a fly-by exhibition of snarkiness on my part anyway. I try to not miss taking a shot at Hollywood, elected politicians or the music industry.  Considering my wife works for the V.A., I gotta give government employees the benefit of the doubt  8)

Some anyway.....

Yeah, I just need to remind everyone that some of us are stranded here in this place you so accurately described.  :D

I'm glad Sam Rockwell won best supporting actor. If you can, check him out in the 2009 Scifi film 'Moon' (directed by David Bowie's son, Duncan Jones), where excepting a few videos and an AI voiceover, Rockwell is the only actor on set during the entire movie.

BTW, in the film, the Moon station's AI is voiced by Kevin Spacey. Hindsight is creepy sometimes...
Vituð ér enn - eða hvat?  -Voluspa

Nothing really rocks and nothing really rolls and nothing's ever worth the cost...

"Don't you look at me that way..." -the Abyss

'When searching for a meaningful embrace, sometimes my self respect took second place' -Iggy Pop, Cry for Love

... this will go down on your permanent record... -the Violent Femmes, 'Kiss Off'-

"I'm not just anyone, I'm not just anyone-
I got my time machine, got my 'electronic dream!"
-Sonic Reducer, -Dead Boys

mirth

Moon is excellent and tragically underrated.
