Got me a nice Academy P-40 Tomahawk. I know I'm not a huge fan of Academy - but this was £20 less than the Hasegawa - and as I'm still learning...

Looking forward to it

Nice one. Flying Tiger marking as well I see.

Yeah. I may not be doing camo though. I think I might just do Olive Drab...not sure yet.

I had a quick look in my library, and I can find only one colour illustration of an aircraft for the Tigers and its shown in a dark green and earth camo scheme with light blue undersides.

Thanks non38...that's pretty much what I found - but
a) I make models for fun - so I'm not too fussed about historical accuracy and
b) I use what I have - and I have no earth

Besides - looking at my B-17, I think the olive drab looks really cool...better than the earth/green

I already had to buy some internal green (that's probably not the same colour either) and I bought some light grey for the underside.

I'm not "down" on people who do this to the nth degree of accuracy...but it's not my bag. I'm just busy learning techniques and doing it for stress relief. I'll leave the historical stuff to the gurus.

Jarhead - Yeah. You're probably right.

Gus - I use sweatpants with flannel shorts to soak up my crotch sweat.

Banzai Cat - There is no "partial credit" in grammar. Like anal sex. It's either in, or it's not.

Mirth - We learned long ago that they key isn't to outrun Star, it's to outrun Gus.

Martok - I don't know if it's possible to have an "anti-boner"...but I now have one.

Gus - Celery is vile and has no reason to exist. Like underwear on Star.

£20 cheaper?!? How much was the model?  :o

Sweet looking forward to this one JudgeDredd.

The Flying Tigers were made up of AVG then?

The Model was £12.99...others (Hasegawa, Tamiya) were over £35!

I love Tamiya and Hasegawa - but funds said I had to get the Academy. I had to buy a couple of solutions as well for the decals and a couple of tins of paint.

2 tins of paint, 1xMicro Sol, 1xMicro Set, 1xEduardo nask, 1xModel = £30.

anyone whos ever played WitP will tell you the AVG kick ass - its the best group of fighters you start with out in Burma. Read up on their history having being plastered by them in a PBEM game - awesome blokes.

Top model - looking forward to see how it comes along, accompanied by sneak peeks of random 1970s TV shows!

I believe American Volunteer Group was the formal name, and Flying Tigers the informal one.

True. 'Pappy' Boyington of Black Sheep fame flew in the AVG before returning to the USMC. After The US entered the Pacific War the unit was 'reclaimed' by the USAAF. It was originally a civilian company formed to promote Curtis aircraft overseas and contracted with the Chinese Gov't to build Curtis-Wright fighters and light bombers.  After the Chinese started retreating back into the center of China due to Japaneses military successes the company started supplying 'instructors' to the Chinese AF through an agreement with the US Military.  Air America was not the first private air force for hire it seems...
