Unity of Command - Now available on Steam, New DLC Announced

Unity of Command is now available on Steam and will be sold for the discounted price of $14.99 during its first week ($19.99 after that). Developers have also announced a new DLC, to be released before the end of this year.

Zagreb, Croatia - October 18, 2012 -- Independent game developers 2x2 Games have announced that their turn-based strategy game for the PC, Unity of Command, is now available on Steam. 2x2 Games have announced that Red Turn, the game's first DLC, will be made available before the end of 2012. "Red Turn: The Road To Berlin 1943-45" follows the historical Red Army offensives to defeat Nazi Germany, putting the players in command for the second half of The Great Patriotic War.

The main part of the Red Turn DLC will be the gigantic Soviet campaign game, consisting of 17 scenarios. On top of that, there will be 2 standalone German and 4 multiplayer scenarios, for a total of 23 - more than in the original game (which had 20 scenarios).

I haven't noticed 2x2 games anywhere but Matrix.

The doctor is right - most of these niche game devs have a very small world of publishers to turn to. Slitherine, Battlefront, Paradox, and Shrapnel (though they've been pretty inactive of late).

Steam gives them a huge potential audience, but there are tons of other games out there, too.

It will be interesting to see how Steam treats them.

It's also strange that they would seem to feel Slitherine isn't enough.

As for the Steam appearance, good! This is one of the games in the Matrix catalog that I've suspected could do solid numbers over there. It isn't going to be a blockbuster, but the price point combined with a realtively simple game style combined with good word of muth (positive stuff in the Steam subforum for it) could help it sell.

And I think Valve is already showing some confidence in it simply by putting it immediately on the service while so many competing products are being made to pass through Greenlight first.

I respectfully disagree with LB.  I do not see what is odd about this.  As Artic Blast notes, and as I noted in the thread you started in the HOTOG, UoC has been available on Gamersgate for a long time now.

While it may be somewhat uncommon for small indie developers to pop-up on Steam, there is nothing odd about it in and of itself.  Either way, I see it as a positive development.  I hope you do too.

I'm extremely surprised the Steam people approved it for sale there.  They've turned away some good games in the past, better than some they already sell, so I'm surprised when a turn-based hex-ish game makes their cut.

^Didn't Keunert play Unity of Command or was it ComradeP?  From what I remember they said it was a fun game but after a while it became boring.
