'Shorts', 'Underwear', Drawers', 'Boxers', 'Briefs', 'Tighty-whiteys', 'Skivvies', 'Jockey Shorts', etc. 'Underpants' works well also. There's lots more depending on how 'functional' one wants the mental imagery to be.  :D

We certainly don't lack for negative descriptors even if 'Pants' isn't among them. However, one of my favorite Brit-isms is saying something has gone 'Pear-shaped'. No idea where it came from but it does a good job in connoting that things have gone somewhat awry.  :D
