(If memory serves, these ships didn't really do too much sea time during this period due to maintenance/age issues.  The Iranians also had a UK DD that similarly didn't do too much sea time, for the same reasons) See https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/USS_Zellars

The database is pretty good. The Combattantes are there and, of course, so are the IRIAF F-4s and F-14As. there is also a mix of missile boats, fast attack craft and Frigates. I'll check on the destroyers. I don't want to go too crazy on this first scenario as the purpose is just for me to explore incorporating the assets into a conflict scenario and to assist in learning to use them. I do want to learn how to use simple triggers and how to draft a WARNO or scenario briefing.

I've begun to add Iranian assets. I've set up three small fleets mostly with Boghammars and Fast Attack Vessels. I've also populated two IRIAF air bases, both of which are equipped with F-14As and an assortment of Migs. Finally, I've given the IRGC two batteries of Silkworm missiles. I'm yet to figure out how or if minefields can be placed. I'm looking into this.

One of the two air bases. This one is located near Bandar Abbas

I need to confirm the type of Silkworm missile, but I believe they are HY-2 Seersuckers with a 110 nautical mile range

The second of the two Silkworm batteries. This one near Bandar-e-Lengeh

Sadly, the in-game briefing editor is not working yet. I've been told it is being actively worked on.

Mine laying is not implemented yet either... :hair:

Testing out my scenario...no contact with Iranian forces yet, but cruising around and launching a variety of aircraft to protect the fleet and local civilian shipping.  One cool feature about scenario making is that you can randomize the chances of encountering hostile forces. This adds some layer of the fog of war even for the scenario designer!

I really like how EW is modeled in this game

Hmmmmm maybe you're right

It'll make me cry when one gets shot down or sunk

Jarhead0331

I haven't cried yet, but I have restarted! Many, many times... :embarrassed:

There absolutely no shame in that!!

I'm still working on this scenario. I've switched over from the stable press build to the unstable development build. It receives updates several times a day. They are clearly gearing up for the early access release in less than 2-weeks. I'm really trying to get my scenario briefing incorporated, but that aspect of the mission editor is really in early state. It requires the use of XAML or BBCode and I've been unable to figure out how to save my work, so I've lost a lot of time typing up stuff in code and than losing it all.

In any event, part of my intended scenario briefing is the assessed unlikelihood of Iranian submersibles. In this screenshot, you can see I added a nasty surprise in the form of a Kilo-Class diesel-electric boat. You can also see that I have given this vessel a 10% chance of it being generated at the start of the scenario, so the intelligence report will have a chance of being inaccurate. I love this feature in the editor. Giving units a randomized chance of appearing is awesome.

One way to raise the possibility of the Kilo being part of the scenario without committing to it is to include verbage a line in the scenario briefing similar to this:

The Kilo submarine was last imaged in the Bandar Abbas port facility on [a date 1-2 days before the scenario start]  or

The Kilo submarine was last imaged in the Bandar Abbas port facility on [a date 1-2 days before the scenario start].  All source analysis indicates the Kilo could be ready for sea in 24 hours.

I was going to be even more nasty about it by saying:

QuoteIRIN submarines are not anticipated to be a threat at this time. It is assessed as highly likely that the IRIN is attempting to procure midget and diesel-electric submarines, but assessed as highly unlikely that any are able to be deployed at this time.

If they show up in scenario, I want it to be a really unpleasant surprise. If the submarine shows up and catches the player totally off-guard, it will most likely be due to the player placing too much reliance on the accuracy of the intel and not maintaining proper ASW patrols. This should be a valuable lesson learned at possibly great cost.

OK...here is the first draft of my custom scenario mission briefing...

I'm really not a fan of the current system which requires the use of BBcode or XML coding. It isn't the most user friendly interface.
