According to the developer on Steam :

So time for you to read the manual and a try few missions to get to know how-to detect, classify, .... and the enemy AI will be re-added.

Is there a gameplay video for that one? A video that shows the UI and how you do things?

I have barely touched it.  I spent way too much time trying to get my throttle setup properly (bloody difficult.)

The tutorials are decent and, compared to highly fidelity stuff like DCS and IL-2, this is pretty casual.  Flying, weapons ops, and counter-measures are all pretty straightforward.  I was up, flying, and blowing stuff up straight off (after 3 hours of throttle fiddling.)

I'd say the most difficult thing for me so far is trying to figure out what some of the weapons are meant to be used for.  As everything is a sort of near-future version of current stuff, almost nothing is named after its real-world equivalent.  A 25mm cannon is a 25mm cannon, but some of the rockets and missiles?  I'm never quite sure until I fire them.  There is an in-game encyclopedia complete you can browse, but who's got time for that?  Now I'm learning how the economy works for the "escalation" version of the game where you blow stuff up to earn sweet loot to buy better stuff to blow up more stuff to get more loot to eventually buy nukes.  That's a nice life lesson there.

Latest release info.  Thinking I'm going to hold off picking up MNW until its been out a while.

QuoteHello everyone,

Another update for you - we're still unfortunately on standby waiting for review and approval into Early Access. To help with full transparency and help answer some of your questions. We wanted to share with you that according to maximum estimated timelines given, the latest time of release will be Thursday.

We understand the severity of delays and impact that has on our community following the game. We understand the frustration people have shared. While the situation is far from ideal, the response shows a community that cares and are eager to see what the game can do - which is a very privileged and exciting position to be in. We thank you for all your responses and apologise again for our mistakes.

While it's been troubled waters to start with, Modern Naval Warfare is an incredibly deep sim (excuse the shameless pun) - and there is plenty more to come past Early Access release....with things like multiplayer being actively worked on and part of our roadmap. Once we get the green light and release the kraken, we look forward to hearing more from you all.

Yeah, just skimming through the forums on Steam.  People sure do seem to be handling the delay well and totally not flying off the handle and wildly speculating on ulterior motives...nope, definitely not doing that.

It has been my experience that, especially given the enormous volume of slop on Steam, whenever developers start blaming Steam approvals for release delays, it is very rarely a process that ends with a game that is actually any good.

What's going on with MNW is very unfortunate as they have been in development and seemingly very promising for quite a long time, but they sure seem to be going out of their way to cause the community to question the credibility of the product.

A 98-pg guide was added yesterday.

$60 for no AI opponent?

On steam that will get them a torrent of negative reviews.

I hope it's successful.  Sometimes these sub sims just don't equate to the tension that movies like hunt for red october or das boot bring.  Modern subwarfare seems like a lot of nerdy guys staring at displays for hours on end then maybe after days of cat and mouse, maybe some action happens.  The YouTubes of this sim made me pretty confident I would never have enjoyed being in subs.

Picked it up and refunded. It's  a buggy, broken, unplayable mess of a tech demo. There is no AI. There is, for all intents and purposes, not even any sound. Tons of techncial errors. Many features they were advertising just a week or two ago that aren't in the game. It is utterly inferior in every way to Jane's 688, let alone Dsngerous Waters. Given that I've been tracking this since at least the pandemic times, this is my biggest gaming disappointment in quite a number of years.

What I can't figure out is you can still find videos of their demo from 2020 which looks... identical, if not frankly better in some instances. What on Earth have they been doing for the last six years?

With small developers it is always possible that they took a multi-year break, or almost-break.

Which is perfectly understandable.  What is not, however, is releasing it into early access in such a condition while asking $60 from the start.  Either delay it until such time that there is actually a playable game, or release it in it's current pre-alpha state for a fraction of the cost, to be incrementally raised as features are added, as most ea titles do when released with little to no game-play.

To say this release was bungled would be a severe understatement.

I think this goes to the heart of it. Hard to say who is responsible between developer and publisher.
