Actually nothing can top letting Iran fall into the Islamist hands. That kind opened the Pandora's box in that region.
US policy should concentrate on un-ringing that bell.

The New York Times quoted a U.S. official in June as saying that, in all,  28 Iraqi Army Abrams tanks had been damaged in fighting with the militants, including  the five that suffered " full armor penetration" when struck by the anti-tank missiles.

I doubt that any IS-hole ringers will be zoomin' up to have at it with the Nato air overhead. More likely they would just hug the ground and try to kamakazi something important to the Bagdhadi gov't- something whose flight time distance at full afterburner is shorter than the flight to target time of the AMRAAMs that are giving chase.

there was that whole blow up when an RPG got super lucky and penned an M-1 during the occupation.  my guess is that they suffered rear engine hits.

I remember that. I think I was over there when it happened. Don't think it was luck. The Russians have been fielding some good AT gear like the RPG29 and RPG22 that can get through at least the side armor of modern tanks. ATGMs are even worse. If IS has them in numbers that's bad.
