Countdown to Star Wars: The Force Awakens

The red carpet premiere in Los Angeles happened last night, attended of course by celebrities and studio execs and high muckety-muck types, as well as some media, and they're all apparently loving what they're seeing with this movie, especially the ending.

The cynic in me says, "But of course they would." When the vast majority of the audience is in the movie, worked on the movie, or have something important to do with the movie's success, they're going to be all about it. There's a moratorium on actual reviews until tomorrow, but I imagine it will be all gushing and amazing awesomeness.

I'm just hoping that amazing awesomeness isn't just studio propaganda. They don't need to do that. They're already pretty much getting a branch of the Federal Reserve at their headquarters, to print all the money they want.

Actually, Mayberry is based on Mt Airy, NC, which is about 3 hours away. Whenever Barney Fife was headed to "the city" it was Raleigh he was going to...

But there's a drive-in that a local entrepreneur revived out on there North side of town here, and they're normally only open in the summer, but they made this one a special 2-week run outside their normal season

We have a drive-in near where we live, too ("near" being 15 miles away). It's ALWAYS packed, though, so we've never gone.

I will say this - one of the best trailers of all time was for Phantom Menace.  As a trailer setting the stage for the movie, it was nearly perfect.

Besides, the drive in theater wouldn't have been in Mayberry. But there was probably one in Mount Pilot.  ;D

There used to be one on the Berlin Turnpike but IIRC it closed sometime in the early 90's. I'm not sure if there are any left in Connecticut now at all.

Didn't know that.


I vaguely recall my parents taking me to see Porky's at the drive-in, as an ankle-biter, because the baby-sitter fell through.  But that was the regular drive-in.  Not a XXX one.  Came from small town boonies, though.
