Well, if I can mod in Bela Oxmyx and Jojo Crako count me in!

While I wait for this game to come out, noticed that GOG had Gangsters: Organized Crime and Gangland for about $6.  Anybody ever play them?  Seemed like Gangsters had some decent reviews, but it also seems that most people said it was overly complex and never knew what they were doing.  For only $6, might take a chance, but curious if anybody here has any personal experience with either.

Not really sure why Kalypso would get the blame. What are they supposed to do, hand a bunch of unfamiliar code to a new dev who doesn't know where anything is in there?

Perhaps - given they (Kalypso) knew it was a POS - should have done the hounorable thing and not release it. Just because they are going to take a hit on it - doesnt excuse them knowingly releasing a product that doesnt work. Thats their problem not the consumers. I simply dont get where its ok for a publisher to sell something they know doesnt work. OK - it may have bugs ... but plainly doesnt do what its supposed to do is different. And no - they never got it working. The Devs went out of business cause people started asking for - and getting their money back, Even from Steam, yes - thats how bad it was. Kalypso likely knew that was going to happen also - so that makes their release even worse as it was just a punt to recoup some cash from consumers - as they knew there was little chance of it getting fixed. they were the publisher - that has to mean something so they are responsible also.

Just another day on the BF forum ... one demented idiots reaction to BF disagreeing about the thickness of the armour on a Tiger II turret mantlet.

I don't disagree with you. But based on how tenuous the finances of the developer turned out to be, they were probably backed in to a corner filled with very unpleasant choices. If they don't release and start revenue coming in, the developer goes under...so now what? Sure, maybe Kalypso should have done some better research in to the quality and health of the developer, but at the same time I'd suspect that the developer wasn't exactly being honest about their actual position until they reached the point of no return.

That's pretty much what seems to have happened with Sword of the Stars II at launch. I will say that Kalypso would have done well to follow the lead of Paradox with that game, where they admitted right off the start that the game wasn't ready, here's why, and we'll give you your money back if you want it.

Well yes - totally agree with your last part. In fact - if they had done that - the dev may have been able to stick around for longer as I suspect people wouldnt have been so pissed about it. I am sure it was more the fact they were not honest about it than the fact that it didnt work led most people to start beating the "give me my money back" drum.

I recall attempting to play Gangsters.. ohhh somewhere back around '99.  That game is pretty old.

The game system was rather confusing and muddied.  Didn't enjoy it much, myself.

Gangsters has some good ideas once you get past the learning curve and interface.

Grim.Reaper

Sounds like it might be worth a $6 chance...

I should have known not to waste my time with this game, especially since it was so old.  Can't get the thing working.  Basically all text disappears when running it.  I have tried everything, including what was suggested in many other places.  Just guessing my setup just isn't compatible with what this game can do.

Omerta will be available on GOG...woot! Didn't think i would buy it but thanks to GOG i will.

So I am excited about Omerta. But I was going through the released screenshot on Gamersgate and came across this:

I really want to know what is going on here? Are they beating up a racist? I'm not exactly sure what to think. Clearly taking a bat to that guy has some draw... but... well... huh?

^^Clearly Gandalf has been practicing magic without sending a cut of the resulting profits to the local crime boss. So they're simply reminding him that only by paying his monthly insurance can he prevent maybe suffering an accident of some sort...and next time, they'll send a Balrog.

Demo: http://www.gamefront.com/files/service/thankyou?id=22881205

They are saying it's the "first two levels" which probably means the ones from the videos, but since playing isn't the same as watching, downlaoding now.

Just became a Day One purchase!

Seriously, I enjoyed my limited time with demo more than I thought I would, although I lost the final battle at the end of the first chapter, and with no way to save I'm going to have to restart from the beginning when I have more time.  Combat is pretty unforgiving at Normal difficulty.

There seems to be more to the first two chapters (and the game) then the videos of the beta revealed.  I like the RPG-like system of traits, abilities,  and perks, and the stats you give your avatar during creation matter (I discovered the hard way that a weak gang leader should not get into melee combat.

There is a city-bulding portion of the game that has to do with earning "clean" money.  Combat is very much like JA, with the caveat that pistols appear to have unlimited ammo. I hope that other firearms operate differently.
