It hasn't yet opened up on Steam (they still give one hour), so I don't think anyone can play it yet. Hopefully it will rectify pretty quickly.

EDIT: And after I say that, they switch it on. Strange.

It's because they follow every word written on Grogheads with an almost religious fervor. And you're their Gaming God!

I buckled this AM and grabbed it from Steam.   So am I the only one who picked up LOLmerta from someone other than GMG?

Nevermind.  I see that they don't have any of the copies activated as planned.  This doesn't bode well.  I'm guessing they still had some serious bugs and had been working up to the last minute for good or ill.  :-\

EDIT:  Bah!  I didn't realize GOG was selling it.  I would've got it there.

Yeah, still nothing. I'm confident that they will get some keys. If not, I wish they would refund the order, so I can feel confident getting it elsewhere.

GOG?  No DRM?  That would be a good thing.

Meh.  I had to do the damn Steam client dance.  Delect local content, restart steam, re-download, blah.  Maybe it'll finally start now.

And, yes, I only just noticed someone mentioning we could get it at GOG, which I would've rather done.  I need to remember to check there even for brand-new titles.  :-[

Well, having already played the first two chapters of the tutorial in the demo, I thought I'd give the sandbox single player game a try.

First of all, let me say that all of my comments regarding the combat in the demo still hold true. But the strategic sandbox game is full of missed opportunities.

First of all, you never fight for control of Atlantic City. The city is arbitrarily divided into four neighborhoods, each one being a sandbox scenario of varying difficulty. Each neighborhood is surprisingly small. And sandbox is the perfect word, because there aren't any victory conditions. You just play until you control the neighborhood, I guess, or get shut down by the police, or get bored.

Worse, there are no rival gangs pushing back. Nobody trying to take control of the rackets that you are setting up. The only thing standing in the way of victory is cash flow, and the ability to reduce heat from the police when it gets too high.

What Omerta desperately needs is a strategic layer closer to Gangsters. I want to vie for control of a huge city against rival families. Where is the diplomacy? I want to sit down with the heads of other families, carve up the city, and go to the mattresses when they try to muscle into my territory.

Sadly, there is none of that here. Perhaps they are saving it for DLC.

There is lots of atmosphere and good RPG-like elements, and the tactical combat is OK, but not as good as XCOM. Perhaps the campaign will be more enjoyable, and I'll dive into that later tonight.

But for now I'm glad I only spent $25 dollars on it, and would advise others to get it for less than that on a sale (which I'm sure will be coming along any day now).

It's only February, but I'll be surprised if this doesn't top my list of the biggest disappointments of 2013.

Although disappointing, not too worried about the delay in receiving my keys.  I got it for a very cheap price so I can wait a day or two, especially since I don't have time to play anyway:)

Thanks for the mini view. I am not hearing good things anywhere else either - and the tactical combat sounds very lite to me  - so this has slipped off my buy list. Shame - the concept could be really interesting but it seems the execution is a fail.

Thanks, tgb. It sounds just like Tropico. Tropico is an okay game but feels like it's also missing a greater 'strategic level'. More of a sim game. I may have to wait for the Steam summer sale on this one.

+1 on the thanks tgb.  Sounds like I'll wait for the sale on this one as well.   Oh well...

Ok I lied:). Even though likely wont be a good game, now I have time to play but still have t received my key from green gaming.  Looks like they are off my list of purchase sites in the future.

I'm actually thinking about emailing for a refund. This is getting pretty ridiculous, given it is now over 24 hours.

It sort of sucks, because I also ordered Tomb Raider from them, because of a decent deal. Now I'm scared they will pull this again.

Me too.....you just need to submit a ticket and one of the options is to get a refund.  I have opened a ticket about my issue and they just keep telling me it will be available "soon".  I have a feeling they pulled a little bait and switch.  Offered a really good discount to get me to buy, but didn't have the means to deliver on release day, which defeats the purpose of a pre-order.  It makes zero sense how they could run out of keys for pre orders since they should have had a pretty accurate count of how many were needed so something doesn't seem real honest here.  It also made us miss other game site's pre order discounts since we put faith in that they would deliver.  So I think I will give them until I wake up tomorrow to come through, otherwise will likely start the process of a refund.

There is no doubt they are completely off my list from a pre-order perspective until they earn my business back......and I am not sure I'll even trust them for current games either, nor want to continue investing in them after this incident.  Its one thing for them to possibly make a mistake, but they have been completely silent on the issue except for one message or so.  I believe in their forums they tried to say this issue was only impacting 15 or so customers, which I don't believe that for a second.  They also made it clear that there will be no compensation for this mistake.

son_of_montfort

There are way more than 15 players effected, at least from what I see in various forums. I submitted a refund ticket, but I have no idea if they will honor my request (they should, considering it is a pre-order that has not been fulfilled). I am going to stick with them for Tomb Raider, because the deal was not big enough to merit a huge run on keys (I would hope).

If TGB had come in here raving about the quality of the game and how fun it was, I would be more content to wait. But sitting idly by while they sit on my money for a game that is only mediocre seems silly.
