I haven't seen a huge amount of arty in the mid tiers yet.  That'll probably change during peak time.

Since there's a special on right now, I may jump in this weekend.

Hopefully the overblown arty doesn't make me ragequit anytime soon.

arty is less uber since they

- reduced slash damage area of effect size
- reduced HE shell effectiveness
- improved space armour performance
- reduced shell damage
- increased aiming times
- increased loading times
- reinstituted shell tracer lines [arty can effectively counter arty]

as an avid arty player let me clue you in to several tips

1/. When you are spotted by a scout you are spotted by arty; stay unseen
2/. keep moving and shifting [unless you are a TD, but even they should move if an enemy gets close enough to spot you]
3/. Your second best defense against arty is hard cover [but watch for splash damage], third is elevation change - although arty doesn't need LOS, they are limited to the ballistics of their cannon, hiding behind a crest of a hill gives arty little or nothing as the shell path will carry it far behind your position.
4/. As always, try to keep your frontal armour to the expect axis of attack.... I will patiently wait for you to turn your turret so I get weaker side armour
5/. Be patient, if you run behind hard cover, wait! You'll fall off the minimap in about 6 secs if you don't move.
6/. If you hate arty that much ... get a fast medium tank and at about the 3 minute mark when everyone is positioned up and engaged, do a death run down a flank to the enemies rear and blow up as many arty as you can.... having crew skill repair maxed and a repair kit, plus a tougher tank suspension will help you in this
--- arty hates you for doing this and it more often than not is a game breaker
--- arty will scatter like a bunch of fox chased chickens once your intention is seen
--- most effective when in a match when there are 3 plus arty as there are fewer barrels between you and the arty

Oh, I know all about avoiding arty but sometimes it just can't be done.  My biggest complaint was (other than the Big Eye in the Sky thing) that the splash damage would constantly break your track and make you an easy target for further arty spam.  Just sitting there, waiting, while a couple-three arties just keep splashing your tracks dead and immoblizing you was where I'd exit the game.

I haven't seen it happening today so something must've changed since I last played much.

One annoying thing I've seen lately has been the enemy tanks "Warping" when they move at long distance.  I hadn't seen this much since WOT was in Beta and thought they had fixed it.  Must've broken it again in another update.  ::)

thats been implemented buy you have to sign up for specific events.  they restrict the tier you can play but not the type of tank IIRC.

No, I'm not talking about Events, about a year a go there was talk of Historic Battles as a new game mode. Sadly after release of Physics & Assault/Encounter battles, nothing new been added to the game, not even new maps. It's been stuck with nothing new but, tanks & tweaks.

*snicker*  ;D

Thanks for listing all that information about arty. If everyone's favorite tank was nerfed as badly as arty has been, I bet a lot of players would quit the game.

Along with all the nerfs you mentioned, it seems to me that arty accuracy has been nerfed as well. Or maybe it's just me getting older.
Regardless of how good a PC game may be it will always have its detractors and no matter how bad a PC game may be it will always have its fans.

Nefaro

OMFG did they lower XP gain since I last played?

It's been quite awhile but dayum!  Even on premium with a decently played match, it blows.  Seems to be about 50-60% of what it used to be.  I'm only talking about Tier 7 gains, too.  :-\

Nefaro there's a big difference from tank to tank credits wise.

Yes, I see the differences in credits (and net credit gains) but I'm talking about XP.   The gains are only a bit over half of what they were a year or two ago, if memory serves.

Nefaro

oh well..

experience is the same.  the difference is in all the newer tanks which are harder to pen, damage and kill.  I can sit there all day in my Stug and hit a At-2 without damaging the damn thing.
Jarhead - Yeah. You're probably right.

Gus - I use sweatpants with flannel shorts to soak up my crotch sweat.

Banzai Cat - There is no "partial credit" in grammar. Like anal sex. It's either in, or it's not.

Mirth - We learned long ago that they key isn't to outrun Star, it's to outrun Gus.

Martok - I don't know if it's possible to have an "anti-boner"...but I now have one.

Gus - Celery is vile and has no reason to exist. Like underwear on Star.

Anyone know if they are still working on these new game modes?

Funny, there was a post on the WOT forums late last night from a player with 21K Battles claiming to have spend over $2,000, and told Wargame.net to go F-themself and ban him, the post was removed. Guess he had a bad weekend ::), playing with/against 7-8yr old's shooting gold rounds. Allowing Gold rounds in pub matches was a bad, bad idea. Maybe if Wargaming.net banned more players the game might be better off.

I'm sure that makes a difference in rewards, of course.  But I was looking back through my past stats and noticing that my earlier Tier'd tanks all had higher "Avg XP Gain Per Match" than I get now.  These were tanks I had only used well over a year ago.  The XP gains look to have dropped by 25%, and likely more, even comparing current Tier 6 and 7s to Tier 4-6.

I'd been seeing a lot of complaints about WoT changing it's rewards & economy the past few months, from some ex-pats in other games, but didn't take much notice at the time since I wasn't playing.  It feels like they've just made a long grind even grindier, and it doesn't entice me to stick around long this time.

I agree! AT-2s are a real pain...I don't even try to take them on with my T14 and my Su85 isn't much better. If you have an accurate gun target the cupola and you will kill it.

BITCH ON

So I take my Batchat into clan wars. Equipment is sorta straight forward... its the consumables that are tough to chose.
Engine on batty has only a 10% chance of fire, so I ditch my autofire extinguisher in favour of another repair kit.

First arty shell damage I take .... do you need to know the rest of the story?
