New - Interesting DLC for Graviteam Operation Star

Just stumbled accross this ... thought it was for the Blaze of War tank sim at first - but appears to be for operation star. Angolan battle area with cuban volunteers and SA Defence force... must be a first  ?

I wonder if they'll ever make a pack with multiple Cold War era ops in it?  I have SABOW and it's pretty fun once you figure out the sim part's interface, but there's room for a lot more 70s-80s operations besides the Iran-Iraq War and an Angolan op in it.

Weird the title didn't mention operation star in it...if I was searching for dlc on gamersgate for operation star, I would never known it existed....looks interesting.

Yeah, why'd they make the name change? It's not even a cool name.. Operation Star wasn't bad.. but Graviteam Tactics? Who has their company name in the game name?

It is not the "Operation Star" that was changed.  Its the "Achtung Panzer!"  Operation Zvesda, or, Star, was a Red Army offensive on the Eastern Front that commenced on 2 February 1943.  Its one of several DLCs released for the Achtung Panzer series.  I imagine the name was changed because they are expanding the series beyond the WWII Eastern Front.

Yep.  I think Achtung Panzer does not make sense in the post WW2 setting.  Since that is the direction of the new DLC, they have to change the base game's name.

Doesn't seem to be a minor war.  It was a pretty important conflict during the cold war era and extended beyond.

It is unique because no one has ever gamed it (maybe only in Steel Panthers and Steel Armor).
Also it's an easy game to develop for them since they already made the assets in Steel Armor.

I've been playing this the past several nights and it's very interesting and fun to play. It seems even more lethal that the APOS scenarios are.  Much of the equipment is new and different to me.  All of the more modern weapons mean that you'd better not leave a unit exposed to fire for any length of time unless you want some really heavy casualties.  Because units carry over through the campaign, heavy casualties early will pretty much screw you over the course of the game.

I've been reading about the conflict, too.  This was a pretty long war.  The battle depicted in the game was the largest in Africa since WWII.

Thanks for sharing feedback and it does sound interesting, especially since covering a different topic.  Likely will pickup at some point to give it a try.  Glad these forums exist, otherwise would have never known it existed!

Limited doesnt mean short. It's there game but sure seams like there are a lot of undergamed areas that are more conducive to 1980s armored warfare than Angola v Cuba.

I've been eyeballing Operation Star for a while now.  I'm pretty sure this DLC is going to push me over the edge this weekend.

What are you guys reading re: the Angola Civil War?  There are quite a few books on Amazon but I only want one.
