Wargame: AirLand Battle

I believe at this point I can safely say that Wargame: Airland battle is one of my favorite games of all time.  The deck building mechanic is what really put it over the top for me.  Throughout the day I'll think "hmm maybe if I swap out X and put in Y I can prevent what happened last time I lost..."

I think my deck is too missile heavy.  After watching a Challenger take 4 anti-tank missiles to the face and still survive, I think it is time to take that unit out of the game.

I also need to stop putting it off and get a good NATO deck going.  PACT is easy as the Soviets generally have the best of everything.

I agree! CoH was hands down my favourite RTS for a long time, but after W:ALB came out I've had no interest whatsoever to buy the new sequal.

Well.. the Challenger does have the heaviest frontal armor.  All but the best penetration-rated missiles fail against it's front.  They're beasts against guns too. 

And, yes, the Soviet equipment has more value in nearly every category, along with a wider variety of choices.   Maybe there's a few notable exceptions but not very many.

The missile was a Kokon with AP Power value of 20.

Wow, I didn't realize the Leopard and Challenger had a higher armor rating than the M1A1.  I admit I know more of WW2 tanks than modern. 

I need to brush up on my modern armor.


Starfury, it was the only angle I could get at.  They were at the edge of a treeline in a valley and they had SAMS so I couldn't get any air assets in.  I had a T-55AM2 with the Bastion missile and a MT-LB SHTURM-S with the Kokan firing at extreme range so they wouldn't be obliterated by the Challengers main gun.  It was pretty cool watching the little battle take place with everything else going on around the 10v10 map.

Yeppers.. isn't the Challenger's front armor value something like a godly 21?  And there's still some other factors, I'm sure.  I believe this is due to the Challenger having an ass-ton of composite layered armors up there, IIRC.

You probably want the meanest ATGMs against those monsters, from the front.  Hope to ambush them from the side or damage them as they're kinda slow for an MBT, then finish them off.  You can still get a lucky hit from a Kokan, I'd imagine, but don't count on it happening in the first couple shots before it's in gun range and shooting at you.

Anyone have any advice on how to take out soviet minigun AAA? Most of the time they are too far behind the line for my MBT's/ATGM to neutralize them. They just seam to tear my NATO a/c apart. I lose more a/c to them then I do to missiles.

The Shilkas and Tunguskas are radar-guided guns, so you might be able to hit them with SEAD aircraft armed with anti-radiation missiles.  Still.. it seems like there's an endless stream of the bastards so killing one or two never lasts very long.

If you have a buttload of artillery that can hit it, you may be able to stun it long enough to get an airstrike through if you time everything right (which could be tough).

Kushan and I playing some Multiplayer Coop vs the AI. 

Here one of his F16s makes the opening kill to start the battle off.... nice gun kill.   Good game and good multiplayer fun.

I saw him playing last night, too, but wasn't able to get enough singularly dedicated time to play a multiplayer match.  I'm also still adjusting some of my decks & testing them out.  Seems that some point values were changed in updates along the way.  ???

I'll probably look for you guys tonight, though!  :D

I couldn't win the first tutorial mission... I'm a terrible general.

But I intend to put more time into this. The graphics are amazing and the level of military detail is staggering.

I never thought I would actually feel the need for more WWII titles, but imagine a WWII game with this engine and just as thorough of an OOB.
