Remember when you could find Blitzkrieg, Luftwaffe and Richoften's War at your local five&dime?  The good ole' days!  Of course now you can find Call of Duty next to other Wii and PS2 games at most grocery stores these days....

The discussion continues.  Slight derailments to the side.  We know so far strategic/operational/tactical are levels of a wargame although there is some suggestion of perhaps a higher than strategic level.  We know that they can be historical/ahistorical/fictional.  I think all things considered there has been some pretty good debate so far.

We can argue all we want about the definition but people outside our circle have their own definitions as well so whatever we come up here will not be up held in the overall scheme of things.

Wargaming.net used to be published by Matrix. They had a cool little sci-fi game called Massive Assault. I'll bet they well know what a wargame is by our definitions. That they would choose to disagree because the name sounds cool and they make more generalized action games these days doesn't mean they don't know what a grog's definition is :)

But that's not the point. No one here is claiming to be the ultimate authority on what is or is not a wargame (for my money, World of Tanks is entertaining but NOT a wargame), we are simply debating what a wargame is to us. It's about as harmless a debate as asking if you prefer chocolate or vanilla.

Or cookies and cream. Darn you for starting the thread off with ice cream, Bison!
