Question for Jomni, PanzersEast or other Flight Simmers

Have never considered P3D as my FSX install is stable and all of the add-ons I have purchased are working.  I know there will still be development for FSX so until that has ended I will stick to where I am at.

My advice is stick with FSX since all the add-ons are there.
P3D just have some Dx11 chrome that's not crucial and may just be more work for your computer if you set it at a higher level.

Do any of you guys know when the JustFlight Christmas sale typically takes place?  I've read on several sites that they heavily discount their catalog during an Xmas sale, but I haven't read when it actually takes place.  I have my eye on a number of FSX add-ons.   ;D

So I finally got everything downloaded and installed and did a brief test.

The Aerosoft PBY is very nice.  The sounds are great- deep and throaty.  The B377 also seems nice but I need to do some research on this one because I blew up the engines every time I tried to take off.

I got the Catalina Island free scenery installed and it looks quite nice.  The Hawaii Megascenery is also nice, but I'm not totally blown away.  Still for $2 it's better than the stock scenery.

I think I'm going to set up an Air Hauler hub on Catalina Island and use the PBY and set up another hub in Hawaii using the B377.  After I set those up I'll have quite a nice spread of bases and planes.  I'll have:

Majestic Dash-8 out of Atlantic City
Stock DC-3 out of Fiji
JustFlight C69 Constellation out of Cayman Islands
Aerosoft PBY out of Catalina Island
A2A B377 out of Kaneohe MCAS Oahu

That's a pretty nice choice of planes and routes to fly, depending on my mood!

I grabbed that Catalina Airport a few weeks ago as well.. can't beat 'free'.. makes me almost want to pick up the rest Los Angelos.. think it's less than 20 on sale..

I'm crossing my fingers for RealAir/Milviz/Carenado sale!.. Though I've spent too much already this week..

Edited: to remove the free airport (not Catalina).. when I downloaded Norton said that it was malicious.

On JustFlight there are two bundles on sale that look pretty good.

That has 5 aircraft in it for about $65.  I don't know anything personally about their quality, but some google searching showed generally positive reviews of a few of the aircraft.

Well, some interesting developments today.

First, the PBY, while being totally awesome, is also totally difficult to figure out without reading the manual...which is why I bought it but I had hoped it would be more intuitive.  I kept overheating or blowing up my engines.

Anyway, that bad boy is slow.  Which I knew, but it is really slow...like 110 kts cruise slow on a good day.  And with underperforming engines... ugh, it was tough.

So I took out a lease on a Lear 45 at Mokapu on Oahu to go with the PBY.  I did a speed run to the Big Island and with the Lear getting to 16.5k in about 3 minutes and then cruising at 330 kts that 180 mile flight was about 20 minutes of real time.  And with good VFR weather I did a Mokapu-Big Island-Mokapu-Big Island run in less than 1 hour of real time.  That's more like it.  So I'm going to keep the PBY out here, but I like having the ability to go rocket ship when I just need to get a flight in and don't have a real time hour to do it.  That PBY needs some babysitting to work properly!

BUGGER! I just followed one of the links to Justflight and spotted the OV10 Bronco - what a corker.

The only thing that stops me is that it only seems to include one colour scheme for it. I already have a number of models done by Tim Conrad, which are good but nowhere as detailed as this one.

Edited for me being too hasty. The pack does indeed contain several liveries.....just went back and read it properly. Very tempting.
