I'm thinking of starting a journal soon...like an AAR.  Would there be any value to FRAPS'ing some of my flights, JD?

I'm not an expert on civilian flying, but I know a thing or two and might be able to start recording some stuff if you or anyone else think it would be entertaining.

By the wy Just Flight . com is selling the Tristar at a special price of $8.
...
Thank you. I actually got it for £2 because I had 300 point (£3) to redeem!

Now - I just need to learn to fly jets. I've been taking it real easy with little planes like the Cessna because you have less electronics and more time to perform your actions...and landing is a doddle!

Navigating in old jets gets pretty hectic at times so I welcome the automation in new jets. Wait till you try Airbus :)
But it becomes a case of mastering the systems.

The joke is that in Boeing, you fly the plane. In Airbus, the plane flies you.
In Boeing you figure out what you need to do.  In Airbus, you need to figure out what the plane is doing.

Toonces, if you want to start recording, might I advise BandiCam over Fraps?
FSX already is a performance Hog and Fraps makes it all the worse. BandiCam, however, records much smaller files with the same quality.
It keeps your games running much better while recording.

Congrats on getting PMDG's 73. Its a wonderful product and pretty darn close to how the real thing works. Happy landings!

Another common joke among Boeing jocks: No, we won't ever fly a 'Scarebus'! :)

Personally, I've always found the notion to be controlling rods and cables instead of a set of computers a soothing one. ;)
"Pilots do not get paid for what they do daily, but they get paid for what they are capable of doing.
However, if pilots would need to do daily what they are capable of doing, nobody would dare to fly anymore."

No prob, the B-17 Accusim is probably my favorite plane to fly.. a lot of character.  I have actually planned to fly around the world in B-17, have my routes but have yet to do it... something about time and games and life.... but I will do it this fall for sure.

Just flew from Nantucket to Boston during my lunch break.. it was awesome!.. Sounds immersion etc...

Lol.. I seemed to have lost Ailerons when coming into Boston I wonder if I didn't have hydraulics on or something.. I was able to land safely with just rudder and elevators... but again very cool.. Starting was great.. lol.. took me about 15 minutes!

the L-1011 looks very cool in the images.. looks like very nice cockpit graphics.. will be cool to try later...

I also downloaded the free c-47 you mentioned and flew that last night, was pretty cool for a freebie as well..

Question for the experts....I own the basic version of Microsoft Flight Simulator X.  I see there is a deluxe version and gold version (seems to be combo of deluxe version and some acceleration add-on) available.  Is there a way to purchase the add-on material that is available with the gold version alone or would I have to buy the complete gold version to get it?

There is no way to purchase the add-on material separate that I know of.

Ok, thanks....now of course the important question:)  Is the extra stuff you get with the deluxe/gold version worth purchasing versus just using the basic version?  I am not a heavy flight simmer yet, unless this grabs hold of me of course.

I have logged countless hours in FSX from its release and I have the base version, have never needed the deluxe/gold so you should be fine.
