Question for Jomni, PanzersEast or other Flight Simmers

Haven't played a non-combat flight sim since... uh, this one:

but I picked up FSX during the sale. Haven't messed with it much yet, just a couple of check flights from a couple fields I know in r/l. I noticed that that the stock terrain is not terribly accurate as far as roads and rivers (I didn't expect the towns to be very accurate other than in general location) but I had fun puttering around in the Cessna and trying to get the P-51 off the ground without RTFM.

For some bizarre reason, I'm totally not interested in military aircraft in FSX.

It's like "If I can't shoot shite, I don't need it" and totally blank the module.
I was almost the same (but totally opposite) with DCS and the Mi-8....no reason for it...it wasn't a combat vessel.

So it's kind of if the game engine is a military game, I want stuff that blows stuff up. If it's a civil flight sim, I want stuff that doesn't blow stuff up.

Weird - but not on my earth :D

Did you manage your flight round the world?

I'd probably put old WWII aircraft in an exception because the era doesn't fit - so I'd be unlikely to be doing strafing/dive bombing/strategic bombing with those in FSX

I got the steam edition up and running with a ton of orbx freeware content, been having a blast just flying around sight seeing. Best 5 bucks I've spent this year.

I was doing it once.. but found out the fuel wasn't realistic at all with time compression.. So I started another on in Real Time, but I haven't flown in awhile..

kbos (Boston) cyqx (Gander Newfoundland), cyyt (St. Johns Newfoundland), *LPLA (Lajes Azores) LPPD ( Ponta Delgada, Azores)...

*LPLA was originally gonna be EINN, but I didn't like my winds and fuel consumption, so diverted to LPLA.

Next stop will probably be Spain or Portugal.. FTX global is on sale till Jan 2nd.. think I might pick it up then continue my trip..

Any of you guys have the VRS Superbug with Tacpack...I'm really thinking about picking them up. Any thoughts?

I know a couple of you guys have the Superbug and/or the F-14.

What are you doing with them in FSX? I am very seriously thinking about jumping in with the F-14 and Tacpack, but I'm not sure what I'm going to do once I buy them.

I could be interested in setting up a small online group ala Dogs of War for some 2v2 fights or something.

I've always been a purely tubeliner guy in FSX. I'm not sure how much appeal a fighter is going to have...shooting down airliners is going to get old pretty quick. I'm trying to get a sense of what I can do with the FSX and Tacpack tools to make interesting missions and such.

Shooting down airliners make no sense. If you want combat, go with DCS. Theres no AI that try to evade or shoot ypu down. Maybe fight multilayer. Only thing going for FSX is that the whole world is modeled unlike DCS' limited area of operations.

For the most part I agree with you. However, I've been reading up what I can find in between posts here, and it looks like there is quite a bit of activity using the Superbug and F-14 along with Tacpack. It looks like I need to join an organized online group to get the most out of them.

I've got my DCS pretty pimped up, and I agree it's a much better air combat platform. But it lacks the F-14/18 and meaningful carrier ops, and that's what's appealing to me right now. That F-14 looks stunning!
