Is anyone actually playing this?

Have they finally returned the series to its roots, with proper private servers and bots and all.
Or do they insist to continue making it crappy like the previous game? :(

I have it, but still working my way through the campaign.

Well if you found BF3 crappy, then you will not like 4.

Don't expect the come back of private servers and bots. They have migrated to rented servers since Bad Company 2, mainly due to anti-cheating reasons tied to your progress and leaderboards. At least that was the explanation at that time.
No bots have been present anymore since then too. And none are in 4.

It has the same structure as BFBC2 and later and uses the same web browser Battlelog interface as 3.

So if those are your gripes, no nothing has changed.
Wether that makes for a crappy game I'll leave in the middle. ;)

Thanks.

So I guess I'll skip on this one and wait for next year and BF5.

I'm playing it and loving it.

Again, this is why I think Infinity Ward might need to get a big pat on the back from PC gamers assuming their new Squads mode works well with CoD: Ghosts.  They have listened to gamers and brought back a bot mode, and in a big, competitive way.  I am really curious to see how how enthusiastically gamers embrace Ghosts next Tuesday for this reason alone.

Truth be told, if IW would announce a Day 1 FOV patch for Ghosts I would have pre-ordered it already.  I will be getting BF4 at some point (probably with the first sale) but I am in no rush because the beta just made it seem like BF3.5.

But I am glad you guys are enjoying it.   :)

I'm still on the fence with this but thanks for the comments guys.  I liked BF3 but I still need some more info from the gaming community on their take on BF4.

Are you playing BF4 then on the PC W8? We will play it next year on the PS4 :)

Hi Grim,

No I don't have the game.  When I do get it though I'm probably going to do like you will and get it for the PS4 next year.   ;)

Here are some things I like about it so far:

1. The squad tactics actually seem pretty good. Being able to spawn in at a squad member is a huge deal and makes the game go a lot smoother and cuts down on travel downtime. It also encourages squads to stay together and support one another with medkits and ammo kits.

2. Damage seems to be realistically modeled. As in, if you run around out of cover, then you have the risk of keeping taken down extremely quickly. The sniper rifles are deadly. Regular assault rifles seem fairly accurate and do decent damage. The support-class suppression weapons also do what they are designed to do - allow you to toss up a bipod when prone and lay down a hail of fire. You actually get points for suppressing people who are then shot by a teammate, which means you can employ support tactics properly rather than worry about being the kill-shot. This makes support my favorite class so far, I just love their weapons.

3. Vehicles are powerful but not plentiful. It takes real skill to be a good helicopter pilot and, unless you have a certain type of helicopter, just flying one around is fairly useless. Now fill those babies up with men and you get a flying platform of death that is hard to take out. I was in awe as I watched the opposing team level a helicopter full of men with high-fire guns just spray death at a key location. Neat stuff. Tanks are fearsome, but also hard to come by (in fact, I rarely get to drive them, because other people have them so quickly). They can turn the tide in one area of the battlefield, but there are not enough of them to really dominate the whole field.

4. The players don't seem as obnoxious as I feared.

Good thing you like it, SoM! :)

I do suffer from frequent crashes, though, which is a real bummer. And as with every BF release; the servers have trouble with this one too.
If the server freezes or crashes, you will loose your progress for that round. If you client crashes and you do not join until the round is finished again, you keep your progress. A thing to keep in mind.

Could you test something for me?
Can you start the 64bit client and then the 32bit client and compare the sound effects? (Right click in Origin on the game and go to properties to select which version to use)
My sound effects in the 32bit client are much more 'full' or 'bombastic' than those in the 64bit client, eventhough all settings are the same!

I could not tell a difference in anything from 32 to 64 bit. The sound was pretty much identical, or perhaps just a shade better in 64-bit. I'm not exactly sure what sort of difference the two clients have.

Hiimori

Anyone playing a console version (PS3 / Xbox 360)? I'm waiting for the PS4 version, but I was wondering whether they fixed the rented servers / quick play option which ruined BF3 for me on XBox 360.
