Reptiles keep their junk in the toolbox until needed.

Actually, Godzilla could reproduce parthenogenetically. Though somewhat rare, there is precedent for it among reptiles. And it could be a useful plot device for future movies, especially when 'Son of Godzilla' happens along.

I have to admit I am looking forward to this movie. As a kid, I loved Godzilla and watched them all. It's pretty stupid stuff, granted, but ya like what ya like. I hope they do a great job with it.

Ditto.  As I was watching Spiderman, this weekend, all I could think was "At least Godzilla is coming out later this month!".

I have a suspicion the writers back-doored Rodan into the plot after all, in case they never get official permission from Toho to use the rest of the monster stable. The flying Muto looks more and more like Rodan (or maybe rather the Gyaos from the Gamera series) with each passing scene.

At this point I've stopped watching trailers as I can almost watch the movie in my head. :( (And yet I still catch a couple by accident...)

Just watched a commercial for the Fiat 500L that features Godzilla (in a lot of clear shots) EATING CARS with people in them...

...then trying to eat a Fiat 500L fleeing from him, with two families (five people) clearly in it (showing them screaming as they're racing through the wreckage away)...

...he grabs the car, throws it in his mouth, swallows it (WITH THE FAMILY STILL INSIDE!)...

...then pukes it back out and roars in anger as they race away.

Tagline: Fiat 500L, "It's bigger than you think."

In an ADD world where audiences have been weaned on the hyperactive incoherence of Michael Bay's Transformers films how do you wow them anymore? What does a prehistoric atomic monster like Godzilla have to do to stand out?

Director Gareth Edwards has seen this problem and confronted it in a way that will delight those who revel in the feeling of awe, but will bore those who go to the movies to be beaten into submission by sound and fury. He has made a Godzilla movie that keeps the title character offscreen for much of the running time, revealing him largely in pieces - a thrashing tail, a stomping foot, a spiky back swimming inexorably across the Pacific. And when the King of the Monsters - crowned as such in this film! - does really make his full appearance Edwards gives us a sense of scale, an understanding of his size and, as such, a true feeling of awe.
