And Galaxy Defenders has, in fact, been ordered. Thoughts to follow once it shows up.  ::) ;D

How much did that beast cost?

I was drooling over pics of that new age of sail minis game from Ares , but doesn't that thing cost about $140?  :o

Was part of a bigger order, but it and the Elite Alien Army expansion ended up costing about $95.

Sails of Glory looks neat, but it's also going to prohibitively expensive to get into. Probably way beyond what I'm willing to pay for it.

I'm surprised to see this thread has gone 10 pages and so little has been said about Solitaire ASL. In addition to being a clever solitaire system, it also addresses the lack of command/control restrictions in the ASLRB. In other words, it actually makes ASL a little more realistic in addition to providing a fun solitaire experience.

Mike, did you use a resource to grok the rules for SASL?  I've tried a few times to get through those rules and I just can't wrap my brain around it for some reason.  Maybe there's some detailed VASL logs for SASL that goes through and explains what, how and why things are happening?  Any other suggestions?

Well... he does have -4234 posts.

Takes a lot of disappearing work to get that far into the red.

After the math, it still comes out negative.  :P

Gary - it's too bad Jay Richardson hasn't sunk his teeth into SASL. A primer on SASL similar to the treatment that he gave to various ASLSK topics is exactly what we need.

Volume 31 Issue 3 of The General has a good ~20 page article introducing SASL, including a detailed AAR. Can lend you a copy if you like.

Thanks guys...I'm working myself back in to the fold.  I actually set up an ASL game and have been playing with my son as the wargaming bug his bit once again.  I don't have tons of free time but I'd love to continue with our TS game if everybody is still interested in doing so.
As for SASL - a Jay Richardson "primer" would be ideal.  I'll look for that issue of the General (I have the online resources to download it).  I even asked Charlie Kibler once to help me with it and he said "hell if I remember".  lol

Gary, I'm sure all would love to continue out TS game... if you have the time. Whenever you can is fine by us. Welcome back.  :)

Probably do some C&C: Ancients solo this weekend, now that I've finished the long task of affixing stickers.

Will try the "Draw 2 cards and play best activation for the opponent every turn" suggestion since that should give the other side twice as many draws in the long run.

Been kinda yearning to pull out Sentinels of the Multiverse again.   Fun card game.

Didn't a big new expansion just come out too?  Ahh.. I think this is it:

May have to get that one sometime too.

No?

Oh well.. I managed to buy the latest version of an unpunched Blackbeard on Ebay for ten bucks.  Cost less than the shipping.  ;)

Will be interested to hear how it goes, I've been thinking about picking it up. I have the old Avalon Hill version, but I just can't face that rulebook, it's pretty mindbending compared to the GMT one.

General feeling from other sources is the older version is better for solitaire play, but it's not exactly clear why. It certainly looks like it will be easier to learn.

I played the old version a LOT, back in the early 90's. It was hard as hell to win, once the military ships got on your tail.

Here's an old solitaire game that I haven't seen mentioned. It's an old Avalon Hill title, Source of the Nile.

I would love to get a copy of this..I lost mine, God knows where, probably 30 years ago.

Invariably, your explorer would lose a battle with the natives, his askari's would desert him, and he would be left, wandering alone in the jungle. Not usually a good outcome!!

Maybe someone will create or reproduce a similar exploration game sometime soon.   That looks like one I'd enjoy.

Picked up Robinson Crusoe last month, but I dunno if it's my thing.  It's a quality game but I would really like to find something more oriented toward exploration, such as this.

You absolutely get the feel of being there, when you are traveling up a river, and move into a blank (unexplored) hex and get ... "river continues." You are still in veldt, or mountain, and you grab your crayons and mark in the terrain, and then roll for encounters. It can be very intense, and a fully explored map is a think of beauty, an alternate Africa.

Nefaro

I would imagine there has to be something newer with somewhat similar exploration-focused gameplay.  I just haven't seen any myself, although I seem to recall seeing a vid review shortcut to some exploration game that used a bunch of hex tiles or something.
