Do the different nations play and feel different?

??!

As in different game mechanics?  I don't think I've ever seen a historically based grand strategy game where that was the case.  I mean.. aside from the usual splits in technology focus and such.  I would think that's more for specific facets of space 4x games (like the way FTL works for each race in SOTS) and different classes in RPGs.  Probably not so much for World War One aside from diplomatic and pre-war planning, perhaps.

Maybe I'm misunderstanding the question.  ???

Not to put words in anyone's mouth but I think he means in terms of strategic goals and obstacles, historical events, capabilities, government, economy, etc. I don't think he meant mechanics and UI, etc.

^Yeah pretty much. For example: when playing as the Kingdom of Romania, are there specific 'Romanian' historical goals to achieve? Or is it just a big sandbox set during the WWI era?

I see.  So you just mean goals?  When you said "play different" I thought you might mean mechanics.  :o

I just want to see what players are saying when they complete a game as one faction and then compare it to the next faction they play. If playing Romania feels the same as playing Austria-Hungary, then I'm less interested.

...just a bit of an FYI/heads up.  Here is a bit of an email MuzzyLane sent out:

From the start, response has been overwhelmingly positive.  Our most recent update has resulted in 25 playable nations including all the Great Powers. The rest go in this week, making the game pretty much feature complete, and officially entering beta.   As we enter the final month we are confident that we will launch on schedule!  However, this also means these are the last days of the 50% discount price of $19.99.  As of July 1st, the price increases to $29.99.  Cost at release is $39.99.

...

The official release of "Making History: The Great War" is July 28.  Beyond that, we are planning to move back to the WWII era and then on to the Cold War, creating a mega-game of the entire 20th century!

Looks like I will have to tske the plunge this weekend then...probably tomorrow, June 28. How appropriate!

I hope I'll be able to find more mature MP games online this time, where I'm not against a bunch of kids trying to conquer the world full-throttle, with no regard for realism or role-playing.

The Great War looks far more mature with its new features. I'm interested in MP games where nations are role-played in character with politics and intrigue. In Making History II, kids steam-rollering across Europe and being gamey kind of killed it for me.

Let's just skip another WW2 remake and go straight to the Cold War one!   ;)

I agree, but I suspect guess the next WW2 one will need to be the basis for the Cold War one.

There are nation-specific events in the game, so it's not just a sandbox.  Also, there are inherent differences in the nations in the game that make for very different play experiences between, say, The Ottomans and the UK.  Location, tech level, population and other factors influence how you play.

I bought is for 19.99. Any helpful hints for a newbie? Was a little flummoxed firing it up for the first time yesterday.

Crap, I just saw the two new free keys from last week (June 30). Are they gone yet? No one has accounted for them in post. (And I'm not at the house, and remote Steam access on my account doesn't seem to allow me to try keys....)
