For those interested and able to participate, the 1.2 Beta launched today.

Already got a chance to try out the new ships.  Very cool.

What is the price point for the new ships?
No clue.  All ships are 100cr in the Beta.  Judging by their abilities, I'd think the Vulture to be between the Cobra and Asp, and the Fer de Lance to be probably in 10 mil range.

Both seem to be extraordinarily combat leaning.  The Vulture is the next in the upgrade line of the Eagle, and the Fer de Lance next in line after the Viper.  Vulture is a dogfighter, Fer de Lance an interceptor.  I think the Fer de Lance may well replace the Cobra/Viper as the most popular pirate and bounty hunter ships.  The Vulture is born to do combat zones and escorting in wings.

So I've pretty much just bought all of the ships and tried them all out. I'm curious how this is going to transpire once it comes out of beta. I've bought over 1,000,000 credits in upgrades for some of them, so I hope if they take the ships away I'll be refunded the credits.

Your beta commander is just a copy of your main game commander.  He and everything he has done will be deleted when the beta ends.  It won't have any effect on your main account.

It was done this way to give people the ability to test every ship in the 1.2 environment.

ED for Xbox - so much love and hate here i dont understand it

I may be naive, to me it seems only a good thing, i wont play against the console users, wont see them, will never come across them in the galaxy it will only mean another elevntymillion pounds for FD to further develop and enrich the game, but for some, theyre simply uninstalling and walking away

odd world we play in

So annoying...

Vulture is over $21,000,000 and the Fer-de-lance is over $102,000,000. What the hell?

Yeah I agree - there's a major outcry on the forum - the game is crying out for something between cobra and asp

Seriously...as it is, the only incentive to play the game is to earn money to buy a better ship, but there is such a large price gap between ships that its not worth it to anyone but the most diehard players who don't mind grinding for hours upon hours upon days. Stupid.

agreed - theres a whole argument that you may as well stay at cobra or type 6 and choose the game you want from there - bounty hunter or trader

i was an early advocate of high prices - anacondas should be rare and something of a spectacle when you see one, but i didnt think theyd be priced this high - the only people buying them are those that have ridden the wave of every exploit since beta and cashed in - the irony being these are the guys saying theyre bored because theres nothing to do

my rares route takes me about a week to do (its not that long, but in time i can give to the game it is), at 2 million a run - thats 100 million in 50 weeks - im looking at a year of gaming to get a FDL, and then kit it out

and as you rightly point out, what then? im still trading the same goods as i did in a type 6 and im still shooting the same guys as i did in the cobra - so why upgrade

not disillusioned, i do like the odd hour of jumping and trading and upgrading the components on the ship - it just needs more meat, a campaign if you will

I moved on. It's a great game and I don't regret the purchase, I just wanted more than trying to make money just to buy a better ship. There will be more stuff at it and I'll get back into it it's a fantastic game and will be one of the greatest space games ever developed

Interesting...I don't own the game but I was reading the Steam forums for X:Rebirth because I was considering a purchase when it was on sale last week on Gamersgate for $20.00 (Steam key). There were many postings by Elite:D players expressing your same feelings and were revisiting X:Rebirth now that it has been patched up and finding there is far more variety of things to do than in Elite. But in all fairness, there were also posters defending Elite: D and trashing X:Rebirth.

I wasn't a fan of X-Rebirth when it came out and I'm still not really - it's got a pretty terrible look imo compared to previous X universe games.

However - I agree with the latest "general" feelings here about Elite...it absolutely nails space - but there's just too little to do and working extremely hard for little bits of money here and there to try and upgrade to the next ship - and that is pretty much all there is - lets the game down hugely.

I was a mahoosive fan of Elite when I bought it and it wants to be the best space sim out there - it's just not at the moment.

X-Rebirth I have revisited a couple of times and I still can't get past the look...so I'm waiting on Elite:Dangerous getting where it deserves to be.

X-Rebirth (and all X games) should be free to play (and on sale) next weekend on Steam.

I've put some time into X-Rebirth as of late and I am really enjoying it with some mods... there is plenty to do, building stations, getting money and rep.... mining, boarding ships and doing some somewhat limited exploring.... however, in the long run I can see it will run its course because once you amass money tech etc....

Now, that leads me to say....

I believe Elite Dangerous will not suffer from this as the vastness of space and once content is added, it will be hard to pull away from.... I mean all that space to discover and see for yourself.  It really is like being a space explorer and granted, X series is at heart an economy sim, however there is just so much money you can make and trading you can do until it becomes rather mute.

The outcry was enough that they announced an across the board discount on combat ships before the end of the week.  Players that purchased the Vulture and FDL at full price will get a refund on the difference.  They're also dropping fuel costs.

They even put a cute in universe reason for it, check out the galactic bulletin board about the Federal Combat ship tax credits and the Empire's answer.

It was a good thing too.  I pretty much broke my bank to get a Vulture.  It's a fine, fine ship, but in no world is it worth 22mil credits.

The FDL is even more ridiculously priced.  People that defended its pricing compared it to buying a Ferrari, but buying an FDL at 100mil was the equivalent to buying a 2015 stock Corvette for $500,000.

Prices are been slashed due to community complaints - don't know what to yet

Power play is code name for 1.3 - supposedly biggest update so far, rumours of serious mission restructure and evolving gameplay

Fdl is now in the 50 mil range.   Vulture got moved to 5 million.   For 5 mil the Vulture is now THE combat ship.  It outright murders Pythons and Anacondas.  Honestly, they overcompensated and made it too cheap.
