While waiting for my Rome 2 mods to update, I got hooked again on the Sicilian Vespers mod for M2TW. So I'll be trying to unite the Christian Kingdoms of Spain and drive out the dreaded Moors. One problem. The dreaded Moors drive back. So by Monday, Spain maybe somewhere on the Rhine. In which case I'll fall back on Skyrim and kill a dragon. That always makes me feel better.
I'm going to be playing almost nothing but Diablo 3 Reaper of Souls after my two CE's arrive on Saturday. If need a break from stopping the lord of death; Titanfall (Xbox One), Forza 5, Xenonauts, Command, and Hearthstone are all possibilities as well.
I haven't decided which game I will play this weekend. I'm tired of playing Hearthstone. I've bought a few games from GOG.com, GamersGate, and Matrix, but none of them appeals to me right now. Perhaps a little retro gaming with Master of Magic, Darklands, etc., would be a change of pace until Age of Wonders III goes live.
I'll be playing Diablo 3: ROS. Great game now, IMO.

Yes, the loot system has been completely redone. That's not to say you will always get an upgrade every time something drops, but since they have removed the AH, finding gear and crafting are now the only to ways to gear up.
For me it will be F1:2013 with me sitting with 5 points as a Williams driver after two races (15th in Australia and 5th in Malaysia)...China is next.
I think I'm going to give BF4 a good try after giving it an outing last week. It just infuriates me dying regularly (see the ARMA III thread for more on that!)
I'm still trying to get through my campaign in LnL:Heroes of Stalingrad - I've got close (and actually should have won once but for a bug) but cannot progress. Just missing that ONE little thing affects the outcome...that's how tight it is. For example, moving troops without cover, leaving a support weapon on the ground during the rally point, not paying attention to movement routes and having the troops you move join a melee hex instead of going to the house in the next hex
I think I'll also give NASCAR 14 another go. I liked it, but falls short in some areas. That always amazes me...that games come out missing features that have been in games for a couple of decades! You'd think the MINIMUM target would be to give what's been before and add! (you'd also think we'd learn as gamers!)

1. How did you get picked up by Williams, or is that a starting option (I went with Torro Rosso, so I don't remember if there were others).
2. So what's the deal with Nascar 2014? I'm sort of kicking myself for not getting 2013 despite the bad reviews because I kind of want to try Nascar, but I'm not sure I want to try it $40 bad if you know what I mean. 2013 would have been a good intro. Is it worth picking up for SP or not? I'm not BMS Falcon hardcore on my driving sims so think of it as if a Strike Fighters sim guy would enjoy it. I may eventually go hard core in driving, but right now I'm totally at the F1:2014 level- that's hard core enough for me if you know what I mean.
Williams was an option at the start. I think there were 3 teams to choose from. From what I recall I was offered Williams, Torro Rosso and I
think Sauber.
It
may have been to do with the driver training. I presume you did that? Where you try and take an apex correctly, stop within a set distance, get the fastest lap etc...all of which earned you gold, silver or bronze stars...so it might have been linked to that.
As for NASCAR 2014. It's not bad. I used to play NASCAR Racing Season 2003 which was pretty hardcore and this is nowhere near it. I enjoy it, but it is light. I would say on a par (or possibly a bit lighter) than F1 2013. I've not got too far into it so my judgement is not based on any deep gameplay...only did one Daytona race at the moment.
The AI for me seems to be better than in the previous title I mentioned. It doesn't knock you out quite as easily and if it gets knocked out, it doesn't spin on a sixpence and joint he race again. I like the drafting effects...you do notice it and I like how you can actually bump without being thrown off...again like the previous title.
But...I have played that previous title before (NRS2003) and I can't mention specifics...but it is lacking in some features. I'm also not sure alot of the stuff works. I tried Daytona with 100% grille tape and 0% grille tape and there was no noticeable difference in laps and engine temperature was not affected...and that just isn't right.
BUT - if you like the F1 difficulty - if that's where you are at with your simming, then this is a good addition I think. I'm not disappointed

Anyway - that seemed to me to be what I expected from a NASCAR game. I also liked the fact that you could tap the cars in front or keep being tapped in the rear and it didn't make you spin...much like Nascar 2003 Season used to. And that the AI seemed to be aware of where you are. The two accidents in the race were caused by me and my "nervous" driving.
Of course the AI may not be so great in some other races, like Watkins Glen (a road course) or a Bristol (a very short oval).
There are some things I wasn't too keen on....like the pits. When you drive in the AI takes over and then you get the chance to make your selections...but you ONLY get the time from the AI taking over until you box...and it really isn't enough time...or at least it wasn't. Perhaps as you perform races and understand the pit menu better, you'll be able to make your selections quicker. Also there were a couple of accidents but no yellows. I don't know if yellows come out for all accidents, they seemed to for NASCAR 2003 Season...but the two accidents in the race didn't bring out the yellows...though they weren't big pile ups.
I actually don't mind the AI taking control of the car into the pits.

A big thumbs up from me so far.
I soon found out that grille tape made no difference to temperature of engine or lap speeds and that tainted it abit...but the actual racing is enjoyable. And forget my mention of the race positions and qualifying etc...I found out the reason for that and it's a special Daytona thing
I plan to play some more this weekend and if I do, I'll post more impressions if you wish because I can only go on the 1 race day I've raced and the few practice sessions I've tried.

I'm defintitely Strike Fighters in my level of sim racing.
Concentrating on F1, I think the reason I'm so put off from Nascar (N) 2014 is because so many people bag on it. But so many people bag on F1 2013 as well.
I LOVE F1 2013 so don't get me wrong. The problems with 2013 are: F1 is a very intense experience. A moment of inattention can destroy a very long race...
and: it requires super concentration for the whole race.
I'm not telling you anything you don't already know. But wth Nascar I'm hoping for a slower, more tactical pace of movng my car around that leaves more room for error.
I'm looking for a less stressful racing experience.
Does that make sense?

If you like F1 I can't imagine you wouldn't like NASCAR - BUT - that's from a difficulty perspective...when I say it's lighter I also include in that "easier". Of course the racing is totally different as it's in ovals. Going round and round might not be your cup of tea, but I love NASCAR.
If you are waiting anyway, let me get a few more races under my belt to give you better feedback. One race is difficult to give any depth of reasoning to my post. I'll know more by next weekend...how does that sound?
Might as well get some Warlords 2 in before Monday. Probably some Xenonauts as well.

The last time I slumped into a "Bleh" gaming mood, I switched to doing solitaire tabletop games instead. Was nice getting away from the digital stuff for awhile.
If the weather holds, there should be some Lawnmower 2.0. Once that is finished, it'll be a variety of, "What do I feel in the mood for?" Eventually, it will end up being determined by whether or not I have some one to play with. If solo, Warlock or EUIV. If MP, then Civ IV or EUIV.
Once I finish the intro campaign in ETW I plan to fire up the PS3 to have a go at The Last of Us (borrowed from my nephews).

Note on the request for a less stressful racing game upthread: I might recommend switching genres to a less serious racing game altogether, one where you're only spending five minutes or so on a segment. Driver: San Francisco or any of the Motorstorm games look nice, the former has a sort-of brilliant campaign, they each race quite differently, and they come in addictive bite-sized elements. Neither one involves tweaking the cars, unfortunately.
As for my gaming weekend, once again I am trying to hold off the British hordes as Ethiopia in the WW1 campaign of Darkest Hour. I also expect to finally catch up my AAR to the point where the British hordes start giving me trouble.
I will be playing 'kill the eye infection.' Until it is killed I can't really game or read. What a sucky week.
I will be continuing my work for the Imperial Legion in Morrowind this weekend. Also maybe some Pazercorps as well. I see a lot of people playing Xenonauts this weekend. I own it but I'm still waiting for the it to be complete to start playing it. It's in my vast backlog.

The drop levels were what kept me from staying with Diablo 3 as well. At least with the expansion, it seems to be fixed. I have a 65 level Wizard on Torrent 2 difficulty outfitted nicely with drops.

There was a command line switch/hack that would slow down the original CoH... is there not something out there for CoH2?

Yeah, funny you mention that. I remember there was a way of inputting a command (in some in-game console or something) to slow the game down. I'll google around and see if there's something similar for COH2 -- it would help a lot.

It was frustrating constantly getting item drops that were 8-to-12 levels below your own. Obviously to encourage you to trade them on their damn auction house for something your own size. >:(

Is it just me or are there still balance issues in the game, just starting out with a level 1 hero 5, turns in, I get a dialog box about some one who wants to fight me one on one, so I click ok and the fight goes like this; the enemy guy moves and kills me with a single blow of 60 hit points, my hero never even got a turn and that was on easy, huh?

Funny you should mention that, same thing happened to me and had to restart. I'm playing on Easy and it's a challenge. However, I've heard once you grasp the main game's feel it gets easier.
Not using any mods yet...but I'm having a blast desiging new unit types and just learning the ropes. I'd also recommend disabling the 'all units moved ends the turn' option or whatever it's called. I've had a few moments where you move a unit and the turn ends without giving you chance to change production or something else. Or you could be smart and make production changes before you start moving units for the turn...

I want to play some Combat Mission, I have to play Field of Glory, as I have a load of MP games on the go. Don't get me wrong FoG is great fun, but I don't want to let my opponents down. I have a fantasy itch atm too, so I'll also want to get some Warlock/Dominions in.
Then again I've got the Eador Deluxe edition new and sealed on DVD - Eador, and Eador 2 (the Mastertronic DVD release). Does anyone know where I can get the non-steam patches for the game?

I have become very disillusioned with CA since Rome 2. I thought Shogun TW Battles was another trade in on the brand name, which for me is starting to be one to avoid. And yet Shogun 2 Total War was really good.
G*d alone knows what has happened to all the accumulated development experience acquired from the Total War franchise. IMHO they seem to be taking steps backwards with their products on many levels rather than increasing the gaming experience. I have been a Total War fanboi for years, but lately as a TW fan I feel really let down by CA. >:(

Do you wear disposable contact lenses? if so, you need to throw them out and,

There are certainly balance issues, yes, but the one's I've come across are generally less severe than the one you're referring to. That one is kind of annoying, though; I don't understand why Stardock hasn't tweaked it, as I don't know anyone (including myself) who's come even remotely close to beating that guy.

I have become very disillusioned with CA since Rome 2. I thought Shogun TW Battles was another trade in on the brand name, which for me is starting to be one to avoid. And yet Shogun 2 Total War was really good.
G*d alone knows what has happened to all the accumulated development experience acquired from the Total War franchise. IMHO they seem to be taking steps backwards with their products on many levels rather than increasing the gaming experience. I have been a Total War fanboi for years, but lately as a TW fan I feel really let down by CA. >:(
Unfortunately it sounds like their Warhammer Total War game is going to be dumbed down for it's console compatibility, too. I'm beginning to think this is the direction they're headed with the franchise. :(

Is it just me or are there still balance issues in the game, just starting out with a level 1 hero 5, turns in, I get a dialog box about some one who wants to fight me one on one, so I click ok and the fight goes like this; the enemy guy moves and kills me with a single blow of 60 hit points, my hero never even got a turn and that was on easy, huh?
The biggest balance issue I find was starting location, proximate resources, and proximate experience quests.
I don't know that the encounter you are talking about is a good example of the game's balance issues, but it's certainly a strange one. The guy who challenges you is drunk, right? The only time I've ever come across that guy is in the first 10 turns. He doesn't have a lot of hit points, so if he manages to miss you in that first strike, you'll likely kill him. In which case he offers to join your cause as a champion, but he's a remarkably poor champion. Not sure why he's there.
There are no level-specific areas, so it is entirely possible to wander into mobs much higher level than you. That's clearly by design.

probably keep on with my quick play games....Qvadriga, the Syrians must be slow starters but my team with only 1 original driver is starting to come around i'm finally racing in level 3 arena's and getting some wins in level 2 arena's. I'll throw in some Ticket to Ride which i just picked up and am enjoying alot, so much so that i picked up the board game and I shall attempt to teach the kids in my on going quest to get them into games with more strategy choices. I'm also going to try to get some time with Sir you are being hunted, they released the last of the content for single player the castle biome so i'll be giving that a visit. hopefully.
Man, so far I have totally not followed the plan for this weekend. I broke down the wheel and hooked back up the HOTAS and spent the last two days flying FSX again.

Flying a shitty approach into Honolulu. What was cool about this, though, is that I had Active Sky running with real-world weather. We were having some thunderstorms nearby (real world) and just as some lightning flashed in game it thundered for real outside. Totally cool.

I think I might boot up CK2 now as I'm having some beer and F1 is impossible once I get my beer on.
The bad news is that a patch came out for CK2 that apparently nuked all of my old saved games.
The good news is that I started a new game as Moray.
The bad news is that it was the fastest game of CK2 I've ever played. I pretty much lost within 3 years, which I didn't even think was possible. Religious revolts just destroyed me. Tough game. I didn't even get to marry my 8 year old fiance! >:(
If your ck2 is steam you need to roll it back to the previous beta..... it's very easily done and stopped me having a heart attack as 14 months of front page aar went up in smoke!

Played some ArmA III MP today but got slaughtered on nearly every mission.
Fiddled with War of the Vikings some more but I'm still terrible at it. I'm usually either the worst or 2nd worst player at the end of every match. Frustrating as hell.
I've been playing Victoria II with the House Divided and Heart of Darkness DLCs. I never really delved too deeply into Vicky 2 when it first came out (Didn't grab me the way the original did) so it's been kind of a learn-as-I-go process much like I went through with HOI III. Apparently the DLCs broke the tutorials that come with the game and PDox has not bothered to update them so that was frustrating. I started out my first game as Sardinia-Piedmont and thought I was doing fairly well. I let the liberals take control of the government (19th century liberals. Free trade libertarian types) but that was a mistake as they drove the economy into the toilet and the working classes into socialist revolutions. I pulled the plug in 1868 and started a new game as Japan. This one is going very well so far. I westernized quickly which caused the reactionaries to take up arms and I had to spend a few years putting down samurai revolts but it's been smooth sailing since then. Economy is going like gang-busters and I'm looking to annex the Korean peninsula. Unfortunately we're both in the USA's sphere of influence which means I'll have to create a bunch of incidents to drive down US-Japanese relations and then remove myself from their sphere before I can declare war on Korea. I don't think they'll let me leave without a fight but they're busy fighting the US Civil War right now (it's 1864 in my game) so they might not be able to spare too much manpower. I'd also have to go to war with the Chinese Empire as they're allied with Korea right now. Could be more than I can handle but we'll see. Spain's taken out a sizable loan from my banks and they look like they're about to go bankrupt. If that's the case, I'll have a cassus belli against them and I might be able to grab the Philippines and the Mariannas Islands from them. I have to improve my medicine to do so though as I can't deal with the jungle diseases yet.

I occasionally start playing Eador in the hopes that the variety will "open up" at some point, and become less repetitive. I've not made it that far, if it's even the case.
Like the setup but I don't think it has anywhere near the variety of customization as something like Dominions.
With my infection clearing slowly I was able to get in a couple of hours of Shogun 2 - Fall of the Samurai today. Just about ready to start recruiting British Marines.Tally ho and all that.
Looking forward to everyone's impressions of AoW III as well.
I went to the Boston museum of fine arts and saw one painting called "Herodias bearing the head of John the Baptist" which was so dark and Macabre that it instantly out me in the mood to play something dark...can't figure out what. I have had a movie or book do that but never a painting:

Had an awesome weekend of gaming! I have been Ragnar of the Vikings, Queen Juana of Castile and Ash Har the Wise. I have played from New England, to Florida to California. Even in the Deep South a little. All in all, quite satisfying.
I played somewhere in the neighborhood of 16 hours of Diablo 3, plus and hour of EUIV with Metal Dog. Still love the new Diablo 3 loot system. Its working out just as well at high levels as it has been for my lower level characters. Now if only Blizzard would stop giving me legendary rings. The only thing I don't like is that pre v20 Legendaries cant be used for transmog, but I guess you can't have everything.

I've played it this weekend...and i like it. Obviously, it's a lighter game but also much cheaper. For a tablet game, it's really nice. As far as i know, only Slitherine/Matrix has some real strategy games for Tablets and per now, mostly for ipad (which i don't have). So i take this for what it is without expecting whole TW game.
What i like:
- Animations, Artwork and Music. Love how units move and fight...lots of lovely details.
- It's challenging (tried also some of the skirmish maps).
- The story is well told.
- Good progression
- Varied (puzzle type of missions, infiltration, full battles)
What i miss:
- True battlefields (larger)
- Strategic decisions
It's a good game and wouldn't mind if they came up with another release.

Things went roughly as expected except Rome is far from Crushed and no CLOD at all.
Well, I did do F1 2013. Raced China and came 12th. Wasn't a good race for us at Williams
I did play NASCAR 14 - but quickly gave up on it. The AI, in close racing, is pretty poor and I can only imagine that getting worse in smaller ovals (as this was Phoenix I was racing)
I also played some LnL:Heroes of Stalingrad. I actually love this game. Not a bug to be found, try as hard as I might and great gameplay to boot. Easy to fire up and jump into (very important and two of the most common reasons for me not firing a game up), a bit harder to do well in and even harder to win.
No BF4 unfortunately...Mothers Day got in the way!

Just discovered the multiplayer aspect of the game (two players on the same surface)....this game is awesome. Have played with my six years old boy and he already beat me a few times. Just for that it's worth the price! Excellent. If it was 3d, it would be like the chess game in Star Wars IV.
Blasted my way through Interstellar Marines for a while. There is still a lot of work to be done on the game, but it's really promising. I really like the level design, and the fact that the level shift and change and/or the lighting alters every time a new Domination zone is created on the battlefield.
