Just became a Day One purchase!

Seriously, I enjoyed my limited time with demo more than I thought I would, although I lost the final battle at the end of the first chapter, and with no way to save I'm going to have to restart from the beginning when I have more time.  Combat is pretty unforgiving at Normal difficulty.

There seems to be more to the first two chapters (and the game) then the videos of the beta revealed.  I like the RPG-like system of traits, abilities,  and perks, and the stats you give your avatar during creation matter (I discovered the hard way that a weak gang leader should not get into melee combat.

There is a city-bulding portion of the game that has to do with earning "clean" money.  Combat is very much like JA, with the caveat that pistols appear to have unlimited ammo. I hope that other firearms operate differently.

And all the Goyim say I'm pretty fly for a Rabbi... :P

Thanks for the info on the demo....I pre ordered awhile ago but will give the demo a shot.

When's the release for this?

I'll probably wait until it's out, and see what kind of condition it's in.  Saving a couple bucks off for pre-ordering just isn't enough motivation for me to do so, if that's the case as usual.

For me, I saved $16 so worth it to me, especially on a brand new game....as long as it doesn't totally suck:). I believe the last I saw it was supposed to release on January 31.

It releases digitally Thursday and in B&M stores mid-Feb.  Steam is offering 2-packs on preorder for $50, so buddying up with someone is the best way to go.

I tackled the demo again, and this time finished it.  There are a lot of things I like about it -the variety of actions you can take once you discover the right buildings (I completed the second scenario by giving a gift to a celebrity getting him to like me, and then pulled off a charity scam, which brought in most of the required $4000), the role playing elements and overall atmosphere, although I still wish the developers had let someone with a better grasp of grammar, syntax, and slang take another pass at it.  Reducing police heat seems a little simplistic, little more than a die roll modified by buildings you own or have discovered.

I'm still not crazy about the combat. Aside from unlimited ammo, camera angles sometimes block a useful view.  The cover system doesn't always make sense (why would a table standing in the middle of the room provide cover on 3 sides and not all 4?  Why would it provide as much cover as a bookcase?), line of sight is a little wonky (at one point one of my guys and another gangster were both outside a house on opposite sides, shooting at each other through the windows and across the room between them), the AI will have a gangster run right up to you even if it means going without cover, and I never did discover how to switch to melee, despite my guys being pummeled by some guy standing nose to nose with them.

Overall I'm glad I pre-ordered as half of the $50 two-pack from Steam, because $25 is about the right price for this.

Applesauce!

^ Think this is exactly how I feel. I kinda liked combat, with the "different weapons give you different abilities" aspect, but seeing a guy shrug off a bullet wound is pretty silly (I would have rather had more miss chance and higher damage output). The interactions between all the businesses and the amount of actions you can take is pretty interesting. Some of them are a bit head scratching - why does a Pizza joint raise fear? Are people afraid of pizza? Why does a pizza joint not generate a passive amount of clean money?

But I got in at $23, so I think that is perfectly acceptable for a game like this.

The fact the game was nearly reduced by 50% before release probably was an indicator they felt it might fall short of expectations:). Still excited to play the full version

Oh, I don't know, I got a few games from Greenman that were heavily discounted and they turned out alright.

Don't get me wrong, I am really looking forward to giving the full game a try....it doesn't have to be the world's greatest game for me to get my money's worth.

Those of you, who like me, have pre-ordered through GreenManGaming for their better pricing are in for a nasty surprise.
Turns out GMG doesn't have keys, and they are trying to find some/get more from the publisher. :(

No one here who bought through GMG has anything to say? :P

It will be worth a 24 hour wait to get it at more than $15 off. While I would have liked to play it this afternoon, they will surely have some keys fairly quickly. And if they don't, then some nice complaining might get even more goodies. I had this happen once from Direct2Drive and got a free game out of it.

So I'm pretty chill, at the moment.

Problem is that I don't have Sunday as part of my weekend.
And I work my ass off most of the week. So every free hour I have is far more than precious.
And this annoying setback only keeps getting worse :(
