Wargame: AirLand Battle

As a dirty communist, I like to use the Igla anti-air units with BMP with the Konkur missile.  Find a good spot, dismount and you can take on almost anything.  Add some Motorelski with a BMP with a grenade launcher to cover them...and your a self contained bad day for whomever is nearby.

Infantry did get a bit of a nerf recently, though. 

They used to be able to hold out for quite awhile, holed up in towns.  They die noticeably faster than they used to, nowadays. 

Still a decent choice for inexpensive defense of urban areas.

It's alright.  For their price and availability, a little nerfing doesn't hurt much. They are sstill not useless.

I ain't never met an ai I couldn't beat.   I would like the abilty to give kore commands though.  Like hide and ambush.  Some actual formations for vehicles would be nice.

whilst i admit i havent seen the order, troops hiding in woods on either side of a road are deadly at ambushing traffic passing through all on their own

There are some tips that aren't explained well.  If your unit icons are blinking, then they are benefiting from cover/concealment.  You may tell a unit to go to cover but sometimes where you click is not actually cover, use the blinking to know for sure.

Make sure you tell your armor to 'reverse' instead of clicking away.  Reversing will keep their heavy frontal armor at the enemy.

Don't forget smoke!  I always tend to do that.  Smoke rounds block the field of view 100% and help protect your troops if they come under fire.  I often separate my artillery by 1 unit per hot key (press control 1-0 to set hotkeys).  I'll select a hot key, T (for fire on location) and set up my incoming rounds to space out the smoke to cover a wider area.  You can also stop arty as it is firing so you can reposition without having to wait for it to reload.

I haven't used any smoke. I didn't notice any button to toggle the use of smoke.

It is on artillery units for sure, but some armor and other units have a few smoke rounds as well.

Im having a lot of fun with the game and it feels a lot like real time GHQ minis.

Do some 10v10 multiplayer, you get a lot more time to sit and enjoy.
