737 rocks!!.. I'm very disapointed with the tri star but it was only 8 bucks thanks to you, so not a big loss!

Anything PMDG rocks.  Others are just toys. :)

Tristar wouldn't be bad if the alt on AP wasn't so wacky!

Have any of you guys tried the Carenado planes? Getting REX makes me want to get some small add ons as well.. the Accusim one seems a lil expensive, but seeing how good the b-17 is, it may be worth it.. But seeing adds about the Carenado planes, I'm wondering are they high quality?

Have all but one or two.... very high quality and good GA planes.  I fly them when I want to fly VFR....

JustFlight is having an ATC game sale.

Anyone familiar with TRADOC 2012?  I'm thinking of picking it up.  I can't find a review of it anywhere, though.

JudgeDredd

It's an air traffic control simulation...nothing to do with FSX. It's a stand alone "game"

From what I can tell, Tower is a game where you shuffle planes around the airport, managing the taxi to and from the gates.

TRADOC is an ATC simulation.

Again, I can't find much info about how they play.  Might be worth a $15 gamble.

I so wish the Carenado sale was earlier than December!!!.. They should do a Thanksgiving sale!.. I just would like to get into some high quality 'smaller' planes, rather than just fly the FSX base planes. As you add more planes to your 'hanger' how do you hide the ones you 'don't fly'.. just remove their directories from FSX?

Another question, Jomni, is VATSIM easy to 'learn/get into'? And I think I saw Toonces ask earlier but didn't see the answer, can you use something like Air Hauler with it?

Toonces

I haven't flown on Vatsim yet, but from what I understand it's an online environment with live ATC players.  So in that sense, I don't think the software is hard to set up, but you have to have a pretty good grasp on proper comms terminology and flying procedures or you're going to look pretty silly.

I've wanted to try Vatsim, and almost done it a few times.  With kiddos though my time to play is limited and I'd hate to bother other people with "American 445 heavy on approach for DADDY CAN YOU FIX ME A SANDWICH"

I do have a buddy who has flown quite a lot using Vatsim and says it can be an interesting experience. Much depends on finding people on line who are handling area's that you are flying through / to. I'm not sure how much information you get about planning a 'live route' though.

LOL republic, one of my thoughts exactly.. can you fly 'small planes' on it?

Toonces

I don't think there are any restrictions on what you can fly.

VATSIM has people doing the ATC for you.  So it's as real as it gets. You need to internalize the protocol since you say / type what you need to say instead of selecting from a menu (default ATC or Radar Contact). It is a fulfilling experience and you  get a feeling of being one level higher than your typical simmer.

It is generally a friendly environment with people willing to help out. There are some occasional a-holes so just ignore them.  You get to meet people from all over the world.

You will learn a lot especially FMC work and chart reading... And also regulation. But there's no stopping you from doing VFR or small plane flights. Less interactions with ATC this way but you are bound to real world flight and communications rules.

Downside? Air space is less populated since you need hunan pilots and ATC. ATC does not go online 24hrs a day. I still fly when there's no ATC and getting to the airport becomes a test of my skills and proper planning (no vectoring and descent instructions).

I signed up for an ID last night.. lol.. I'll probably be a wimp and not try it for a Month or two... funny there's people talking about interruptions during flights. One guys was talking about having a red light over the man cave door, so the wife would know not to interrupt during the flight!
