;D Yes, but death comes quickly and works hard.

My next game was to be against Concord Rangers. So I guess they're a decent team - Wiki says "they won the Isthmian League Premier Division play-offs, thus winning promotion to the Conference South." Sounds important. :)

I went ahead and let my tactics/epic brilliant F-up ride for this game ride. You can see it here:

Note: This screen was taken post-game, which is why they look all tuckered out. Actually, all of these images were taken post-game, FYI.

Anyway. On to scene 26, which is a lovely scene with some smashing acting, in which Arthur discovers a vital clue. That clue being, Hey, Cheesefaire FC! Your goalkeeper is hurt! Funny thing! Just the DAY before my match with Concord Rangers, my F$%(#G goalkeeper decided to go and get injured and be out for ten days. Great timing, because he's been rather good on the field. Here he is:

His technique, aggression, teamwork, pace, and stamina are all crap, but he communicates well, leads, kicks, has good reflexes, and...uh...he flies average?

The only other guy I have on my squad that can play goalkeeper is this lovely sample of humanity:

So I've had to replace an asshole of a 20-year-old with a fat, middle-aged man that looks like he'd be better catching scones and biscuits than actual soccer balls. Footballs, excuse my Yankishness.

So when we hit the pitch, I fully expected to get my ass kicked.

KICKED, I mean.

Hard.

So...

yeah.

We won.

4-0.

Shaw, my middle-aged goalkeeper, actually made two rather amazing saves.

I even managed to see a red card get pulled on a guy. Sweet! ;D

So...hey, yeah, guess what?

Cheesefaire FC is on top!

But...hey, KyzBP...I'm over budget on my weekly salaries. I'm not sure if the Board are going to care if I'm in first place of Skrill South...

But that can't last, right?

All I can say is congrats. Maybe the handheld version is a little different but you're certainly making the most of it. Shaw is a beauty by the way.

If I know this game like I think I know this game, you're going to hit a wall in the upcoming months. The worst feeling is cruising along when suddenly the wheels come off and you have no idea how to get them back on. :o

Btw, the FM14 handheld looks nicer than the FM13 version. I bought the 13 version last year for my Kindle but I have a hard time getting into it after playing the PC version.

Keep up the good work and please tell me when you hit that wall so I can feel better about myself.

Thank you, sir. I really am not intending to rub it in...more accurately, to display my utter befuddlement as to how I'm pulling this off.

I'm guessing the pieces just happened to fall perfectly in this one instance and everything's running fine without any interference from me. It seems everything I actually attempt to do, I screw up, such as

(1) clearing out my lineup and figuring out how to put it all back together again
(2) learning that football players are a bunch of whiny little bastards that won't accept my signing offers
(3) trying to understand what I'm doing.

I did just sign Shaw to a 2-year contract and upped his wage to 120. I figure if he made 50 pounds a week and played that well he deserved a raise. As did the guy who did the hat trick for me in the Concord game; I signed him to a contract and gave him a raise also.

And yes...I completely understand where you're coming from when it comes to the whole wheels-falling-off thing. I'm bracing for it. Since I'm having such a hard time signing players, I'm really thinking I might find myself injured out of a game when I have to put a striker or a poacher (WTF is a poacher on the pitch?) in to protect the goal if they both get hurt.

I see Dover is in second place and they're the game after next. I'm eying that game for a loss, but as you say, it will come sometime soon.

As for the game - I almost didn't buy it because I read some people complaining about how the interface is "too simplistic" and not worth of the detail-laden PC version. Thus far, though, I think it's crazy detailed and actually fun. I might be having more fun if I knew what I were doing.

As long as you're having fun that's all that counts.

The 4-3-3 you're using is the tactic that took me up to the Premiership my one and only time. If you have 2 forwards with good crossing skills out on the sides feeding a striker in the middle with good finishing skills you can go pretty far. Unfortunately, I've never been able to replicate it in any of the versions that followed. In my new game, because of you, I have my guys training to use the 4-4-3 soon. They need a little more time with it though.

Keep it up, it's fun to watch.

Judge- This years version is certainly more difficult. Don't be surprised to find yourself near the bottom of the table.

It seems to me that you really have to understand the tactics and attributes and how they work together. In my newest save, I'm in yet another horrible run. I won my first game, tied the next, and now seem to be in a free fall. This may be the game that occupies me most this year. There seems to be a lot more going on under the hood and it's going to take some time to learn it.

I believe it definitely requires you checking players attributes, training, assigning correct training and positions and regular play for players - consistency.

These are all things I haven't done. What I wanted to do is go through the first season letting the players get some stats so I could see what's what. Unfortunately, what eluded me is a) how bad we could be and b) if I'm going to play like that then I would have to do the same for other players I brought in when I let some go!

So not the best start and if I keep my job, I'll be looking at getting rid of some old wood, bringing in new talent and hopefully establishing some consistency. I'll also be going into the player stats quite deep.

I envy you guys...your able to jump right in and enjoy:) I have "analysis paralysis" where I want to make sure I have the perfect setup and I understand everything before jumping in. I have to break that habit some how!!! Seems like there is a good game to be had....just so many options to consider....what team, what tactics, how to train, size of the database, what countries to include, etc.
