Have any of you undergone any formal VATSIM "training"?

I'm planning on returning to FSEconomy/Prepar3d and I'd like to finally try my hand at VATSIM for something other than the occasional flight following check in.

I do VATSIM but no formal training for me.  Don't worry, just let them know you're new and they will guide you and be patient.

IF you have questions, ask me.

Well define 'doing combat well'. :)

Claiming its must be better than DCS because you will have the whole world as a sole reason is paper thin to me, though. (No offense meant) :D

If aircraft systems and weapons models are done in a realistic way, similar to DCS. But I doubt that wI'll happen.

I always feared it because of my partial deafness.. I think Jomni did it a a lot.. There's also a paid service called Pilot's Edge, but it only support Southwest US, but they have coverage everywhere and they're professional

Tuna, you can interact in VATSIM using just text. No need to talk and receive by voice.

That's underestimating what needs to be done.
If you look at the time it takes DCS to come up with a proper radar alorithm, I wouldn't hold my breath for FS. :)

However, if pilots would need to do daily what they are capable of doing, nobody would dare to fly anymore."

That damn Navigraph switched to  a subscription plan for charts!  I'm wont be to buy individual airport charts for a dollar or less.  :'(

I know most flight simmers scoff at the notion of using a mouse, but is X Plane 10 at all playable with one?  I just tried the demo, and unless I'm mistaken, it seems that you have to click in the windshield to toggle mouse control, and the pointer (annoyingly) remains on the screen the whole time.

I suppose I could try my dusty old Saitek but I don't know if it will work on Linux.
