I watched Event Horizon about a year ago and lost my love for it. When I first saw it about 20 years ago it scared the hell out of me and I was thinking about it for weeks after seeing it. Curious what you guys think of that one.

Hmm.  I really enjoyed it the first time around too.  It's on Netflix; I'll watch it again soon and find out!

I saw it in the theatre when it was released.  I honestly don't remember much about it other than it being disappointing.   At least Species had Natasha Henstridge boobies.

Exactly! Thinking about that is what has me watching this movie every time it is on tv.

I really wanted to like Event Horizon, but just couldn't. The story was silly and I was pretty much ??? the entire time. I agree it was a tremendous waste of Sam Neill and Laurence Fishburne. I've watched it maybe three times. I keep thinking there's something I've missed that is good about the movie, but haven't seen it yet.

I'm not a fan of Blomkamp either, but I doubt he can do anymore damage to the franchise than has already been done.

I hope it takes place in a shantytown and has blatant messaging about the evils of capitalism, white privilege, and the South African military.   That'd be a reach for him.

Wait, do you mean to say District 9 had some kind of social commentary? I totally missed that.

Thank God he got away from that in Elysium.   Well, to be fair, Chappie was more about product placement for a crappy band than heavy-handed social commentary but it did take place in a shantytown and vilify the SADF.  It's good to see Neil taking such daring risks.

I thought that District 9 was innovative.  Didn't see Chappie, but I did see, and like Elysium.  That being said, the following themes did persist:

- Shantytown
- social commentary on the rich vs. the poor
- physical transformation of the hero
- SADF bad guy heavies

Neill, if you are reading this, when you make A5, please consider:

- no shantytowns
- no SADF bad guys heavies
- no physical transformation of Ripley

but I'll give you the whole soulless corporation social commentary.  Its already part of the Aliens universe.

One of my all time favorite SyFy films was John Carpenter's "They Live" from back in the 80's. Watched it with my brother who thought it was a dog. But I like dogs and this one was a Pure Breed.

massive, pointless fight scene - hilarious film - it was the go to film for me and friends when doing A-levels, that and Cannonball Run

A-Levels? Who knew Rowdy Roddy Piper could act? Loved the music in the film.
