Decided to hang on to Labyrinth : War on Terror after all while selling a pile of other stuff (to the tune of $800 over the next 2 weekends). So I'm going to try to get that on the table this weekend. Plus, I still haven't busted Legendary : Predator out of shrink, and my Kickstarter copy of Between Two Cities also arrived this week.

I'm curious about this one.  The same guys did Euphoria, which some people I know really like, and Scythe, currently on KS, which looks fabulous, but the rules seem trés fiddly.

Also did Viticulture and Tuscany, which makes for a great worker placement-economic game when you've got both.

Its not really a Teutonic 'stache, but it will do for the Brits, the (yuk) French and even Belgians. Definitely not Italian though.

Been debating selling a couple of mine, too.  Storage space has become an issue so I'll have to ease myself into the idea cashiering some of them.

I already went through the headache of sorting Legendary Predator, but haven't played yet.  Numerous new games in the To Do stack now.  :-\

I'm busy painting up some more fighter squadron minis for Star Wars: Armada.  I've decided to be the annoying guy who slows down the game by throwing as many fighters at you as I can so I ended up buying 2 extra packs of Rebel and Imperial fighters.

There have been a lot of Sullust tournaments around here over the last few weeks and quite a few guys have won Wave II miniatures.  The smug bastards have been dragging them down to the FLGS and using them in games.  One guy has won two copies of the Imperial Star Destroyer and has been insufferably smug about it.

I played against him in a 400 pt battle but as I have only Wave I stuff right now, I struggled to come up with an effective fleet that could counter the insane foreward firepower of his two heavy hitters.  You're allowed to spend a maximum of 1/3 of your points on fighters and the balance has to be spent on capital ships and upgrades.

TIE bombers are capable of dishing out critial hits against capital ships and only cost 9 points each so I decided to make a huge ball of those. There's an elite TIE bomber pilot called Major Rhymer who costs 16 points and his special ability is that he can fire up to medium range (3 times the distance of other bombers) and he confers that ability to any other squadrons he's next to (range 1).   The core set only comes with 2 TIE bombers and if you buy the Imp fighter set, you get 2 more.  I borrowed a bunch of bombers from everyone and was able to field 8 bomber squads plus Major Rhymer for 88 points.  I used the balance to buy a TIE advanced to fly as escort (enemy fighters must engage and destroy it first before they're allowed to attack bombers.) I also bought a gaggle of 4 TIE fighter squadrons to take down any fighters that got to close to the bombers.

9 bombers gave me a potential of firing 9 black dice (those have a 75% change of hitting) at medium range. Capital ships with black dice can only fire at close range.  As the Star destroyers are such big lumbering things, it was simply a matter of parking my Rhymer ball where it'd be in range of the ISDs when they moved and then unleashing a massive volley into their faces.  The best thing about the bombers is that each shot counts as a separate attack.  After each attack, the defender has to decide if he wants to use one of his defence tokens to mitigate incoming damage by redirecting to other shields, bracing for impact, or evading.  Each ship gets 3 defence tokens (the ISDs get 4) but they can only be used once per turn before they're exhausted.  Exhausted tokens refresh at the end of each turn.  You can use an exhausted token but if you do so, it's gone for the rest of the game.  With 9 separate attacks, it's easy to exhaust the defence tokens and start doing some serious damage.  Granted the ISD does have some of the best anti-fighter guns in the game but it'll still take one 3 turns of perfect gunnery to knock out a TIE bomber. 

I was able to kill one ISD with bombers alone and generally stay out of the deadly front arc of the other one and win on points.  I think bombers are the way to go if you're playing as the Imperials.

I held off unloading stuff for a long time with "Oh, but I might want that..." and all the usual nonsense. The thing is, if I DO want it again down the line, 95% of it is really easy to get. Besides, most of the "I might want that..." stuff hadn't come off the shelf for literally years. So every now and again I go through my collection, see what has barely been touched, figure out what actually WILL get played again, price the rest of it to move on BGG and move on. The only part of it is arranging meetups with buyers. Not a huge problem, but it will eat up a weekend.

Finally found a deal at Goodwill...a pretty much mint copy of Axis & Allies 1942 for $1.99. All the pieces look to be there and the game looks like it's hardly been touched, though it's been punched and even organized mostly into baggies. They had sealed the box with a couple of strips of packing tape, which kind of sucks, but I can't complain much considering the price. I had to add a few more baggies to corral the chips, ICs, and AA guns, but that's a damn good deal for two bucks. Especially considering it goes for $45-55 or so retail.

Also found a copy of a '98 version of Battleship for $1.99. Looks like it has all the pieces but it's missing one of the two-hole ships (huhuhuhuhh...'two holes' ). Never owned a copy of Battleship so this will be fun to play once in a while.

Small card game translated from the French.  The artist, Tignous, was one of the victims of the Charlie Hebdo attacks.  Not an "up" game by any stretch; cooperative, you "win" by surviving the war and "lose" by succumbing to either mental or physical perils.  I like it a lot.
